# Will Fluxer scan my messages because of Chat Control?

Fluxer doesn't scan your messages or files for child abuse material, and as of October 2026 no EU law requires it to. Here's what Fluxer checks and what could change.

## Will Fluxer scan my messages because of Chat Control?

No. The EU rule in force today, [Regulation (EU) 2026/1881](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg/2026/1881/oj/eng), lets services look for child sexual abuse material only if they choose to, and Fluxer doesn't.

Nobody at Fluxer reads your messages, and we don't have anyone else read them for us. The only exceptions are when [an authorized person on our team looks at the specific messages involved](https://fluxer.com/help/can-fluxer-read-my-dms.md) because someone reported them, we're investigating a specific rule break, there's a credible safety issue or we received a valid legal request.

## What does Fluxer check today?

fluxer.com has a few automated checks for spam, harmful links and explicit images, which [content scanning](https://fluxer.com/help/content-scanning.md) lists. When someone [reports](https://fluxer.com/help/report.md) material that shows real, abused children, a person on our team confirms it, and Fluxer [files a report with NCMEC](https://fluxer.com/help/content-scanning.md).

## What would change if Chat Control 2.0 passes?

That depends on the final text, which isn't agreed yet, and [our Chat Control article](https://fluxer.com/help/chat-control.md) explains where the negotiations stand and what each side has proposed.

## Will end-to-end encryption keep my messages out of scanning?

Both positions in the negotiations leave [messages that are end-to-end encrypted out of any scanning](https://fluxer.com/help/chat-control.md), but nothing on Fluxer is [end-to-end encrypted](https://fluxer.com/help/encryption.md) yet.

## What about self-hosted instances?

A [self-hosted instance](https://fluxer.com/help/self-hosted-instance-privacy.md) is run by its own admins, who decide how it follows the laws that apply to them, and Fluxer has no way to look at or scan its messages or files.
