# Fluxer's encryption roadmap: calls, DMs and communities

Fluxer encrypts your data in transit and at rest. End-to-end encrypted calls are planned for 2026, and encrypted notes, DMs and group DMs as an experimental draft in 2026 and stable in 2027.

Fluxer encrypts your data [in transit and at rest](https://fluxer.com/help/encryption.md), and end-to-end encryption is planned on top of that. Encrypted calls are planned for 2026, and encrypted personal notes, DMs and group DMs are planned as an experimental draft in 2026 and a stable release in 2027. None of it is out yet, so nothing on Fluxer is [end-to-end encrypted today](https://fluxer.com/help/is-fluxer-end-to-end-encrypted.md).

## Are my messages encrypted at all?

Yes, in transit and at rest. Your messages, files and calls are encrypted between your device and our servers, and your data is encrypted on our servers and in backups.

Fluxer's servers process messages and calls to deliver them and can access their content. Nobody at Fluxer reads your messages, and we don't have anyone else read them for us. The only exceptions are when [an authorized person on our team looks at the specific messages involved](https://fluxer.com/help/can-fluxer-read-my-dms.md) because someone reported them, we're investigating a specific rule break, there's a credible safety issue or we received a valid legal request.

## When will calls be end-to-end encrypted?

Calls will be end-to-end encrypted first. [Item 2 on our roadmap](https://fluxer.com/blog/roadmap-2026.md) is a [new voice and video system](https://fluxer.com/help/new-voice-system.md) planned for 2026, and every call on it will be end-to-end encrypted with the DAVE protocol, with no unencrypted fallback. In a call, you'll be able to compare verification codes with the other people in it. We don't have an exact date for it yet.

Around March 2026, we said encrypted calls would come in the next update, and that estimate was too early. Our roadmap has the current plan.

## When will DMs be end-to-end encrypted?

[Item 4 on our roadmap](https://fluxer.com/blog/roadmap-2026.md) adds end-to-end encryption to personal notes, DMs and group DMs. It's built on the MLS standard. An experimental draft is planned for 2026 and a stable release for 2027, but we don't have exact dates yet. The server will still be able to see some details, such as who is in a conversation and when messages are sent.

## Will communities be end-to-end encrypted?

Communities aren't part of the plan. They work differently in Fluxer's server software, and we haven't worked out how end-to-end encryption would fit them. For smaller groups, you'll be able to tie an encrypted group DM to a community, but there's no date for that yet.

## Does Fluxer care about end-to-end encryption?

Yes. End-to-end encryption is two of the eight items on our roadmap, and once it's out, there will be [no setting to turn it off](https://fluxer.com/help/is-fluxer-end-to-end-encrypted.md). All of it goes into the free and open source Fluxer software that fluxer.com runs, so [self-hosted instances](https://fluxer.com/help/self-hosting-fluxer.md) will get it too.

Once encrypted calls are out and encrypted notes, DMs and group DMs have their stable release, only you and the people in your calls and conversations will be able to see or hear what they protect, and neither Fluxer nor an instance's admins will be able to.
