# How do I import a Discord server template into Fluxer?

Make a server template on Discord and import it into Fluxer to bring over channels, roles and permissions without building your community again.

Make a server template of your Discord server, then import its link in Fluxer. Fluxer creates a new community with the template's channels, roles and permissions, and you invite your members from there. Messages and members don't come with the template.

## How do I make and import the template?

First make a template on Discord. Discord's [help article on server templates](https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041033511-Server-Templates) says you need to own the server or have the "Manage Server" permission, and that you make the template under "Server Templates" in your server settings, on desktop or in a browser.

Then, in Fluxer, add a community, choose "Import Discord template" and paste the template link, or only the code at the end of it, and create the community.

When the community is ready, [invite your members](https://fluxer.com/help/move-from-discord.md). A [bridge](https://fluxer.com/help/discord-bridges.md) can link channels on both sides while people move over at their own pace and pick which app to use.

## Can I transfer my Discord server without making a new one?

No. The import always creates a new community on Fluxer, and your Discord server stays exactly as it is, with all its members and messages. You don't have to build the channels and roles again by hand, since the template brings them over.

## What does a Discord template bring over?

Fluxer copies the template's categories and text, announcement, voice, forum and media channels, with forum tags. It also copies roles and their permissions, channel permission overrides and some community settings, like the verification level and default notifications. Stage channels become voice channels, and other channel types are skipped.

If a channel you need is missing from your Discord template, you can add it to your Fluxer community after the import. Messages, members, emoji and stickers aren't part of a template, and [message history can't be imported](https://fluxer.com/help/import-discord-message-history.md) in any other way.

## Can I import a template on mobile?

Yes. The iOS and Android apps load the template from its link for you. The desktop app loads it for you too, and if that fails, it asks you to paste the template data instead.

## Why does the import ask me to paste JSON?

A web browser can't always load a Discord template by itself, so in a browser Fluxer asks you to open the template's link, copy the whole response and paste it into the box. If that keeps failing, try the [desktop app](https://fluxer.com/download) or the [mobile apps](https://fluxer.com/help/apps.md), which load the template for you.
