# Why is messaging paused on my Fluxer account?

If our spam rules pause messaging on your account, you may be asked to verify before you can send messages again. You can reply to the email to ask for manual verification.

You don't need a phone number to sign up or to use Fluxer. If our spam rules pause messaging on your account, you may be asked to verify by text, and you can reply to the email and ask our support team to verify you by hand without a phone number.

## What causes a pause on messaging?

On fluxer.com, our automated spam protections pause messaging on an account that is very likely spam, until you verify your account or a person on our team reviews it. These protections follow rules written by people on our team and use signals such as how often an account sends messages, the structure of its links, account age and IP reputation.

Nobody at Fluxer looks at your messages or other content, and nobody else does it for us. The only exception is when an authorized person on our team needs to see the specific content involved to investigate a report, enforce our rules or respond to a credible safety issue, and every access is logged, as [section 5 of our privacy policy](https://fluxer.com/privacy.md) says.

While messaging is paused, you can still sign in and read messages, but you can't send any, react, join communities or change your profile. Your profile and recent messages may also be hidden from others until the pause is lifted, as [section 9 of our guidelines](https://fluxer.com/guidelines.md) says.

A person on our team can lift a pause at any time. If you think it's a mistake, reply to the email we sent you or appeal under [section 6.2 of our terms](https://fluxer.com/terms.md).

## Do I have to give Fluxer my phone number?

No. You don't need a phone number to sign up or to use Fluxer. To lift a pause on messaging on your account, you can text a one-time code from your phone to our verification number, or ask our support team to verify you by hand without a phone number.

We delete your text and the phone number in it from our own systems within 24 hours and [keep only a one-way record of the number](https://fluxer.com/help/phone-verification.md) for about a month at most. Our text messaging provider acts only on our instructions, as [section 4.2 of our privacy policy](https://fluxer.com/privacy.md) says.

## Can I get verified without a phone?

Yes. Reply to the email we sent you and ask for manual verification, and our support team will handle it. In the app, the "Messaging is paused" banner also has a "My text didn't go through" button. When you click it, it asks which country you're in and writes an email to our support team with your country and account details, ready for you to send.

If you texted the code and the pause wasn't lifted, reply to the email we sent you, and a person on our team will check the pause and lift it if it should be lifted.
