# How to move your Discord server to Fluxer

Fluxer can copy your Discord server's channels, roles and permissions from a server template, but not its messages or members. Here's how to move.

You can set up a new Fluxer community from a Discord server template, which brings over its channels, roles and permissions. Messages, members, emoji and stickers don't come with it, and you can invite people and upload your emoji and stickers again.

## Can I import my Discord server into Fluxer?

Yes, you can do it with a Discord server template. When you add a community in Fluxer, choose "Import Discord template" and paste the template link, and Fluxer [creates a new community](https://fluxer.com/help/import-discord-server-template.md) with the template's channels, roles and permissions already set up.

## Can I import my message history or members?

No. Fluxer has [no official way to import messages](https://fluxer.com/help/import-discord-message-history.md) or members. You can upload emoji and stickers again, and members can use them for free, even the animated ones.

## Is there a bridge between Discord and Fluxer?

There's no official bridge, but bridges made by people outside Fluxer can link a Fluxer community to a Discord server while people move at their own pace. [The bridges we know of](https://fluxer.com/help/discord-bridges.md) aren't affiliated with Fluxer, so check each one before you add it.

## Can I move my community away from fluxer.com later?

You can [export your own data](https://fluxer.com/help/data-export.md) at any time, and anyone can [run their own Fluxer instance](https://fluxer.com/help/self-hosting-fluxer.md) for free and connect to it with the official desktop and mobile apps. [Moving a community from fluxer.com to your own instance](https://fluxer.com/help/self-hosting-fluxer.md) is planned, but it isn't available yet.

[Fluxer has none of the messages, files or accounts](https://fluxer.com/help/self-hosted-instance-privacy.md) on any self-hosted instance, whoever runs it. [Federation](https://fluxer.com/help/federation.md) will let people on different Fluxer instances talk to each other, with an experimental draft planned in 2026 and a stable release in 2027.

## Will my Discord bots work on Fluxer?

Fluxer is compatible with large parts of Discord's API. Slash commands, buttons and other interactions for bots aren't available yet and are [on our roadmap for 2026](https://fluxer.com/blog/roadmap-2026.md), so a bot that depends on them won't fully work until then. A bot still has to run as its own Fluxer bot, which its developer [ports to Fluxer](https://fluxer.com/help/discord-bots-on-fluxer.md) and runs alongside the Discord one.

## Do my Discord webhooks work on Fluxer?

A Fluxer webhook takes the same basic fields as Discord's, and many tools work with a Fluxer webhook URL. [Fluxer webhooks also accept Slack's format](https://fluxer.com/help/discord-bots-on-fluxer.md) and GitHub's events.

## How do I get my friends to switch to Fluxer?

fluxer.com is free, and people can join from the web without installing anything. With an invite, they can join your community using only a name and read what people write, and they [add an email](https://fluxer.com/help/claim-account.md) when they want to send messages. It often helps to let people try Fluxer in a small group or a second community while they still have their old one on Discord.

These things help people find and join your community.

- Make an [invite link that never expires](https://fluxer.com/help/files-and-links.md) and share it where your members are.
- [Apply to list your community in Explore](https://fluxer.com/help/list-your-community-in-explore.md), where new people can find it.
- Your community's animated icon, banner and invite background are free for everyone, and [Plutonium](https://fluxer.com/help/plutonium.md) only raises the limits on your own account.

These articles are about the questions people ask most when they move.

If you're comparing the two, the [main differences from Discord](https://fluxer.com/help/fluxer-vs-discord.md) include open source code under the AGPL, self-hosting and [no outside investors](https://fluxer.com/help/is-fluxer-funded-by-venture-capital.md), and Hampus gives his own answer to [how Fluxer compares to Discord](https://fluxer.com/blog/how-i-built-fluxer.md). Your new Fluxer community can use the built-in [roles, verification levels and moderation tools](https://fluxer.com/help/community-tools.md) from the day you set it up.
