# Which reported problems will the new voice system fix?

The voice, video and screen share problems people reported on Fluxer Feedback that our new voice system is built to fix.

These are problems people reported on [Fluxer Feedback](https://feedback.fluxer.com) that our [new voice and video system](https://fluxer.com/help/new-voice-system.md) fixes. They're about the desktop and web apps. The mobile apps keep using today's voice system for now, and they'll move to the new one in a later update.

"Built in" means the new system already does this, "Before it ships" means we'll finish it first, and "Planned" means we intend to add it. We'll test each fix before the new system ships and mark each post as fixed on Fluxer Feedback once it is.

## Starting a screen share

| What changes | When | Report |
| --- | --- | --- |
| If a screen share fails to start, the app shows an error and you stay in the call. | Built in | [#2](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/2) |
| When the app can't capture audio for a share, you can share without audio. | Before it ships | [#2](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/2) |
| On Linux Wayland, a screen share that fails to start ends with an error after a short wait, and you can try again right away. | Built in | [#4091](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/4091) |
| Changing the window or screen you share keeps the shared audio playing. | Built in | [#2643](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/2643) |
| Shared audio stops for everyone when the screen share ends. | Built in | [#392](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/392) |
| You can change the audio source of a screen share while it's running, without starting the share again. | Before it ships | [#549](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/549) |
| On Linux, the "Applications" and "Entire screen" tabs open the system picker with only windows or only screens. | Before it ships | [#2344](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/2344) |

## Watching a screen share

| What changes | When | Report |
| --- | --- | --- |
| The picture-in-picture window shows the stream you picked, even while you're streaming yourself. | Before it ships | [#4101](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/4101) |
| Turning off the setting that shows your own screen share takes your stream tile out of the call view. | Before it ships | [#4159](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/4159) |
| Ultrawide screen shares show at their own width, without gray bars around a 16:9 frame. | Before it ships | [#760](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/760) |
| Video you pop out into its own window keeps working in the desktop app. | Before it ships | [#1099](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/1099) |

## Video quality

| What changes | When | Report |
| --- | --- | --- |
| The desktop app encodes video on your graphics card with NVENC, AMF or QSV on Windows, VideoToolbox on macOS and VAAPI on Linux with AMD or Intel graphics. | Built in | [#790](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/790), [#2914](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/2914), [#2920](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/2920) |
| On Linux with NVIDIA graphics, the desktop app encodes video with NVENC. | Before it ships | [#2914](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/2914), [#2920](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/2920), [#2894](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/2894) |
| Hardware encoding works with H.264, H.265 and AV1, and VP8 and VP9 always use the software encoder. | Built in | [#790](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/790) |
| Without a hardware encoder, the software encoder uses several CPU threads. | Built in | [#2894](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/2894) |
| Each person's video uses a codec that everyone watching can decode, and the app picks it again when people join or leave. | Built in | [#774](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/774), [#851](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/851), [#649](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/649) |

| If your graphics card can't decode a screen share, the app decodes it on your CPU. | Before it ships | [#719](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/719) |
| On Windows, screen shares from HDR displays are turned into standard range video before they're sent. | Built in | [#940](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/940) |
| On Windows, tone mapping makes HDR screen shares look closer to what you see on your own screen. | Before it ships | [#940](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/940), [#3337](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/3337) |

## Sharing games on Windows

| What changes | When | Report |
| --- | --- | --- |
| When a game is already in exclusive fullscreen as you start sharing its screen, the desktop app uses game capture for it. | Built in | [#4164](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/4164) |
| When a game goes into exclusive fullscreen after you started sharing, the share switches to game capture. | Before it ships | [#2886](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/2886), [#4164](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/4164) |
| Games with anti-cheat are always shared with regular window or screen capture, never with game capture. | Built in | [#4164](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/4164) |
| A window share only shows your cursor while it's over that window. | Before it ships | [#3449](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/3449) |

## Screen share audio

| What changes | When | Report |
| --- | --- | --- |

## Your microphone

| What changes | When | Report |
| --- | --- | --- |
| On Windows and Linux, echo cancellation in the desktop app also uses what your computer plays, so less of a video on your speakers gets into your microphone. | Before it ships | [#208](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/208) |
| On macOS, the desktop app uses Apple's own voice processing for echo cancellation. | Built in | [#208](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/208) |
| On Windows, a setting in the desktop app keeps microphone effects such as Equalizer APO in the sound you send. | Before it ships | [#3055](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/3055), [#1045](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/1045) |

| The voice activity threshold goes down to -100 dBFS. | Built in | [#1413](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/1413) |

| On Windows, you can use the Windows default communication device for calls. | Before it ships | [#4266](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/4266) |
| Voice messages use the microphone and processing settings you picked. | Before it ships | [#3891](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/3891) |

## Volume

| What changes | When | Report |

| The stereo microphone option in "Direct input" mode stays. | Built in | [#1412](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/1412) |

## Calls and voice channels

| What changes | When | Report |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Opening Fluxer on another device or tab doesn't disconnect you from a group call. | Built in | [#2950](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/2950) |
| If your roles don't have "Use voice activity", the app has you use push-to-talk. | Built in | [#3987](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/3987) |
| When a voice channel empties, it stops being tied to the region of the first person who joined. | Built in | [#4143](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/4143) |
| When someone joins your voice channel, the join sound plays once. | Built in | [#2982](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/2982) |

## Encryption

| What changes | When | Report |

| The screen share bitrate limit that people who self-host can set today also applies on the new system. | Before it ships | [#3479](https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/3479) |
