# What is the Operator Pass?

An optional one-time purchase that supports Fluxer. It comes with a numbered certificate, the Operator badge and a spot on the Operators' wall.

The [Operator Pass](https://fluxer.com/pass) is an optional one-time purchase you can make to support Fluxer. You never need it to self-host Fluxer or to build bots with the API, and the pass doesn't unlock any feature in the app. [Why does Fluxer sell the Operator Pass?](https://fluxer.com/help/why-does-fluxer-sell-the-operator-pass.md) explains why the pass exists, who it's for and why it costs what it does, in Hampus's own words.

## What is the Operator Pass?

The pass comes with a numbered Operator certificate with the name you choose at checkout and the date and time you paid. You get it as a PDF, and it's yours to keep. Each page also has its own link that opens it in your browser and that you can share.

These things also come with the pass.

- The Operator badge.
- A spot on the Operators' wall.
- The Operator role and the #operators channel in Fluxer Labs.
- Invitations to help test new open source features before they're stable.
- Your name in the yearly Operators list, if you're on the wall and choose to.

[The Operator Pass page](https://fluxer.com/pass) shows the current price and checkout, and [the terms](https://fluxer.com/operator-pass-terms.md) say exactly how the pass works. Questions about buying a pass and your certificate are in [Buying the Operator Pass](https://fluxer.com/help/buying-the-operator-pass.md), and the wall and the badge have [their own article](https://fluxer.com/help/operator-pass-wall-and-badge.md).

## Do I need the Operator Pass to self-host Fluxer?

No. The pass doesn't unlock or change anything in [the Fluxer software](https://fluxer.com/blog/self-hosting-and-the-operator-pass.md). [Self-hosting](https://fluxer.com/help/self-hosting-fluxer.md), the documentation and the API are free for everyone to use, with no license key or paid tier, and the official Fluxer apps [can also connect to self-hosted instances](https://fluxer.com/help/apps.md).

## Is the Operator Pass a donation?

No, the Operator Pass is a purchase. If you buy it as a consumer, you have the rights in [section 7 of the Operator Pass terms](https://fluxer.com/operator-pass-terms.md), including when and how you can withdraw.

**For legal and accounting reasons, your right to withdraw ends once your certificate is delivered.** [Buying the Operator Pass](https://fluxer.com/help/buying-the-operator-pass.md) explains how that works.

If you'd like to give to Fluxer without buying anything, you can [donate](https://fluxer.com/donate). [Why buy a pass when I could donate?](https://fluxer.com/help/why-does-fluxer-sell-the-operator-pass.md) explains how giving a donation and buying a pass differ.

## Where can I read the terms for the Operator Pass?

Every pass follows the [Operator Pass terms](https://fluxer.com/operator-pass-terms.md). When you join the waitlist or buy a pass, we handle your details as the [Operator Pass privacy notice](https://fluxer.com/operator-pass-privacy.md) says.
