Starting with this post, we'll publish patch notes every Friday. This first edition includes everything that we released between October 1 and October 16, 2026.
Patch notes are about what we've shipped. We've also reworked our roadmap with a lot more detail, and it shows what we're building next in 2026 and 2027.

Everything in this post has been released. Some of it only shows up once your app updates, and how that happens depends on how you installed Fluxer. Near the bottom, you can see how to update each app, whichever way you installed it.
The new desktop app is stable
I've spent months building a new architecture for the Fluxer desktop app, and I'm happy to say it's stable on Windows, macOS and Linux. Before, the desktop app loaded the web app from web.fluxer.app when it started. Now the interface comes with the app and loads from your computer through the app's own fluxer-app:// address.
The interface, the spellcheck dictionaries, DeepFilterNet noise suppression, camera effects, code highlighting and the fonts for Chinese, Japanese and Korean are separate modules that update from pkgs.fluxer.com. The app checks each module's SHA-256 checksum before installing it. The app itself, meaning Electron and Fluxer's native code, updates separately through the installer or your package manager.
Official installs of 2026.1012 or newer get module updates, and older versions keep their interface until the app itself updates. The Flathub version has them too.
With the interface on your computer, the desktop app can connect to any Fluxer instance, not only Fluxer.app. It looks up each instance's discovery document to find its API and settings, and sends requests directly to it. You can add accounts on Fluxer.app and on self-hosted instances to the account switcher and switch between them. You'll find everything else that changed in the desktop app further down.
Much better mobile apps
We made 198 changes to the mobile apps in these two weeks, and 131 of them are bug fixes. The rest are mostly polish and quality-of-life improvements.
For example, you can filter message search by sender, mentions, date and channel. If you leave the app while attachments are uploading, the upload keeps going, though on iOS only as long as the system allows. You can also choose what double-tapping a message does. If an earlier beta felt rough, please try the latest one.
Biggest changes
- Communities can have announcement channels on web, desktop, iOS and Android. When you publish a message in one, every channel that follows it gets a copy. Anyone who can manage webhooks in a community can make one of that community's channels follow an announcement channel they can see.
- Threads and forums are on for everyone on web, desktop, iOS and Android. They're in early beta, and if something breaks, please report it on Fluxer Feedback.
- Calls can connect peer-to-peer for lower latency once everyone in the call agrees to let the others see their IP address. Everyone in a peer-to-peer call can stream at up to 4K and 60 fps for free, which needs Plutonium in other calls. On iOS, you can't share your screen in one yet. It's an early preview, and on Fluxer.app we're rolling it out by country, but instance admins can already try it in the admin panel.
- On Linux, global shortcuts and push-to-talk in the desktop app work on Wayland as well. They go through your desktop environment's own shortcut settings, and there's guided setup for GNOME, KDE Plasma and Hyprland.
- There's an official Helm chart for running Fluxer on Kubernetes in
deploy/helm/fluxer, and the Kubernetes guide explains how to install it. - New self-hosted instances can let people sign up and sign in with just a username, with a recovery kit for forgotten passwords. Instance admins pick this in the setup wizard, and instances that were already running stay on email sign-in.
- On iOS and Android, you can filter search by who sent a message, who it mentions, date and channel, and by whether it's pinned or has links, files or embeds.
Fluxer Feedback is here
Fluxer Feedback at feedback.fluxer.com is the one place for bug reports and feature requests. It replaces GitHub issues and discussions, in-app bug reporting and email bug reports. We copied the public GitHub issues and discussions with their comments and votes, and you can claim yours under "Settings" > "GitHub account".
You don't need an account to read the site, but you need to sign in with your Fluxer account to post, comment and vote on bug reports and feature requests.
- Report a bug or request a feature. After you type a title, the site shows similar posts that already exist, and if one matches, you can upvote it.
- You can upvote, comment on and follow posts, and your inbox on the site tells you when someone replies or when a post's status changes.
- When we mark a bug fixed, you can tell us "Fixed for me" or "Still happening". If you reported the bug and it still happens, it goes back to our team to look at.
- Read each platform's changelog, including changes not released yet.
- Pick up a bug from the Bounties board. It lists bugs our reviewers can't reproduce yet, and if a reviewer uses the steps you post, you get the bounty's XP.
- Follow posts, lists and the changelog in a feed reader with our Atom feeds.
Every bug report and feature request credited in these notes is a post on Fluxer Feedback. If something is broken or missing, please tell us there. To see what helps us most when you report a bug, read What a good bug report looks like.
Fluxer.app
These changes are on Fluxer.app's servers, and you get them on web, desktop, iOS and Android without updating anything. Self-hosted instances get most of them by updating their images. Changes for instance admins are under Self-hosting.
New
- When we take action on an account, the owner gets a notice by email, and as a system message if they can still use it. The notice says which rule applies, what we found, how we decided and how to appeal, with a decision ID and the appeal deadline. A matching notice is sent when a restriction ends or is reversed.
Improved
- We tell you our decision on your reports by system message and email.
- When your connection drops, the app reconnects faster than before, especially when lots of people are reconnecting at the same time.
- Featured GIF categories load faster when we haven't saved a copy yet.
- When you delete a community, it disappears for everyone right away, and we delete its channels, messages and settings in the background.
- If you can manage channels in a category, you can create channels in it.
- When you start a thread from a message, a notice shows up in the channel, unless the message is one of the last five messages in the channel.
- By default, new accounts accept direct messages from people in their communities. Until you choose or confirm this on web or desktop, a dot shows on the settings button and a "Review who can message you" notice shows in "Privacy".
- You can buy Plutonium at a local price without a card from that country.
- Pix is the only way to pay in Brazilian reais.
- In Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland, Plutonium subscriptions and gifts have a fixed price in the local currency, and Icelandic krona is new. The Faroe Islands and Greenland get the Danish price, and Svalbard the Norwegian one.
- We've removed in-app phone verification on both Fluxer.app and self-hosted instances. It was too expensive to run, and our other anti-spam systems do the job without it. You don't need to give us a phone number to sign up or to join a community. If messaging is paused on your Fluxer.app account, we may still ask you to text us a code from your phone, as our privacy policy explains.
- Communities choose from four verification levels for new members. "None" doesn't ask for anything, "Low" needs a verified email address, "Medium" also needs an account that's at least 5 minutes old, and "High" also needs you to have been in the community for at least 10 minutes. On instances where people sign in with a username, "Low" and "Medium" need a claimed account.
- We removed the "Very high" verification level, which needed a verified phone number, and communities that used it work the same way as "High".
- We give up on previews from slow websites sooner. We wait 3 seconds for a connection and 10 seconds for more data, and stop retrying at 15 seconds.
Fixed
- Fixed some videos, images and files failing to load when our own storage or an external website sent them to you in large chunks of data.
- Fixed large images and animations failing to load when you open them at full size. When a file is too big for us to convert, you see the original file.
- Fixed large JPEG XL images failing to load. 8-bit still images without transparency load up to about 50 megapixels, and we scale them down to fit.
- Fixed resized images and previews sometimes loading broken or garbled, as with some JPEG XL images in the full-size view. Reported by Fullest in #3516.
- Fixed message search not treating text in curly or other typographic quotes as an exact phrase, the way it already does with plain straight quotes.
- Fixed @everyone and @here pinging the other person in one-to-one direct messages. In group chats, they still ping everyone in the group.
- Fixed voice permissions not updating for people already in a voice channel when someone changed the everyone role or deleted one of their roles.
- Fixed most cases of people showing as offline for a moment when one of our servers restarts, but it can still happen sometimes when it does.
- Fixed setting up an authenticator app asking you to confirm your identity before it had checked whether the code you entered was wrong.
- Fixed not being able to confirm sensitive changes with your password when two-factor was turned on but you had no usable method left.
- Fixed emails and errors being in the wrong language for Traditional Chinese, including Hong Kong and Macau, and for Norwegian Bokmål and Nynorsk.
- Fixed Plutonium checkout, receipts, invoices and confirmations using your old email after you changed it. Reported by rileylov and Brize-Glace in #261 and #311.
- Fixed a refund counting twice when our payment provider reported it twice.
- Fixed a Plutonium gift redeemed during a paid subscription adding too little time if an earlier gift had ended. The full gift time starts after your paid period.
- Fixed deleted bots keeping their avatar, banner, bio and pronouns.
- Fixed a deleted bot's messages moving to a non-bot account. They stay with the bot, which shows as "Deleted User". Reported by PaperTobi in #3477.
Web and desktop app
The desktop and web apps are the same app, and everything here is in both.
New
Threads and forums
Threads and forums are on for everyone in the web and desktop apps. They're still in early beta, and if something breaks, please report it on Fluxer Feedback.
- You can start a thread from a message in a text or announcement channel, and each thread is its own conversation off the main channel. Text channels can also have private threads that only the people you invite and moderators can see. Administrators can set up thread permissions in role and channel settings.
- Communities can create forum channels, where each topic is its own post with tags. A forum channel shows a list of posts and a box for starting a new one, and it has its own tag settings and a tag picker. Media channels work the same way for posts built around images and videos. Changes to forum channels show up in the audit log. Suggested by librebrew and mangafan in #3665 and #3586.
- When developer mode is on, the thread menu has "Debug thread", which opens the same debug view that channels have. Reported by Tempest in #3648.
Messages and communities
- When you hover over a labeled link to another site in a message, you'll see the real address it points to, with a warning icon if you haven't marked that site as trusted. On mobile web, press and hold it. Suggested by arthur in #1455.
- A link to a message or channel in a public Discovery community you haven't joined shows the community's name and icon, and channel links also show the channel name. Clicking one joins the community and takes you there.
- Communities can create announcement channels, or turn a text channel into one in channel settings. When you publish a message there, every channel that follows it gets a copy, and editing or deleting the message updates the copies too. You can publish 10 messages in a row, and then one more every 6 minutes.
- People who can manage webhooks in a community can follow an announcement channel they can see, and its messages then get posted in one of their community's channels. Followed channels are listed under "Webhooks" in channel and community settings, where you can change the name the messages show up under, pick another channel for them or stop following the channel.
Voice and video
- Where it's turned on, people in a call can connect directly (peer-to-peer) for lower latency. It's an early preview, and on Fluxer.app we're turning it on country by country. Before you join a peer-to-peer call, the app asks you to agree that the others can see your IP address, and you can choose to always agree. Everyone in the call gets Plutonium stream quality for free, up to 4K and 60 fps.
- Channel managers can turn on "P2P calls only" for a voice channel in channel settings. When a voice channel is empty, its menu has "Start P2P call", and during a peer-to-peer call you can pick "Switch to standard call" in the voice menu.
- With Higher Video Quality, you can set your screen share bitrate in "Voice & video" settings, up to 9 Mbps on Fluxer.app, or leave it on "Automatic".
Privacy and safety
- Group chat owners can turn on "Mature content" in "Edit group" if every member is 18 or older, and each member's own sensitive content settings still apply.
- You'll see a dot on settings and a note on the privacy page asking you to review who can send you direct messages, either anyone in your communities or only your friends. The review shows what your current setting is, and you can click "Keep my current settings" to leave it as it is. Reported by TakoSalad in #3737.
- If messaging is paused on your account, a banner across the app asks you to check your email for how to start messaging again, and the app tells you why anything you try is blocked. The banner replaces the old full-screen verification prompt.
- On Fluxer.app, the paused messaging banner has a "My text didn't go through" button. It opens an email to support with your account ID, username, account creation date and the country you type already filled in.
Improved
Voice and video
- RNNoise is the default noise suppression. If you used DeepFilterNet, you're moved to RNNoise once, and you can switch back in "Voice & video" settings.
- If your device has no hardware H.264 encoder and you haven't picked a screen share codec in "Advanced" settings, the app uses AV1, H.265 or VP9 if your device supports one. Software H.264 screen shares stay at 720p and 30 fps.
- Stereo microphone mode works in voice channels at 64 kbps or higher, down from 128 kbps, with all audio processing off. The mic test plays in stereo too.
- When you're watching a screen share that has audio, you can change that stream's volume or mute it with the volume control in the corner of the call view.
- In the voice connection panel, people's avatars are 32 pixels, up from 20.
- While DeepFilterNet loads, or if your noise suppression can't start, your mic uses standard noise suppression. "Voice & video" shows which one is in use.
- Input sensitivity goes low enough for quiet mics to trigger voice activity.
Messages and communities
- The create channel window has a new design with a "Private channel" switch, and in an optional second step you can add the members or roles who can see it.
- When you import a Discord community template, forum and media channels are included, and stage channels become voice channels. Forum and media channels keep their tags, guidelines and default reaction emoji too.
- The desktop app can load a Discord community template from its link, and it tells you what went wrong whenever it can't load the template.
- Communities without an icon show the same initials everywhere in the app, and the letters shrink to fit inside the icon. Reported by Fullest in #3303.
- When you report a message, user or community, the app walks you through the reasons one step at a time, with a summary to check before you send and a thank-you screen after. If you pick "It's just not for me" or "Swearing or rude remarks", the app says this doesn't break the rules on its own and doesn't send a report.
- The welcome line in a channel says "This is the start of #channel-name".
- When you send a YouTube link, we remove its
is=share tracking parameter. We already removed thesi=andpp=tracking parameters. - If there's an ongoing service incident while the app is reconnecting, the reconnecting banner shows the incident's name and links to the details.
Accounts and settings
- The account switcher shows each account's instance under its name, along with the keyboard shortcut that opens it. Suggested by Falco in #3653.
- Account security settings are grouped into cards for sign-in methods, two-factor authentication, passkeys, apps and devices, and disabling or deleting your account. Each passkey shows when it was added and when it was last used.
- The privacy settings page explains each option in plain words, including who can call you, add you to group chats and send you friend requests. The "Silent calls from everyone" setting is renamed to "Receive calls silently".
- Teen accounts can choose whether to blur or block media that's sent in group chats and in direct messages from people who aren't their friends.
- If the emails we send to your account's address keep bouncing, the verification banner has a button for adding a different email address that works.
- On Windows and Linux, Alt+← and Alt+→ go back and forward by default. On macOS, back and forward stay ⌘[ and ⌘]. On every platform, including macOS, Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab switch between communities and direct messages, and Ctrl+' starts a call in a direct message or group chat.
- The redesigned Plutonium page is out for everyone.
- On Windows, text uses the system font, Segoe UI. You'll see a notice once with a "Switch back to Fluxer Sans" button, and you can change it later with the "Use Fluxer Sans on Windows" setting in "Advanced" settings.
- When you scroll back or return to a channel, images you've seen show up without loading again. The app keeps up to 192 MB of recent images in memory.
- If you pay for Plutonium through Google Play or the App Store, the Plutonium page shows which store bills you and when your subscription renews or ends. A "Manage subscription" button opens the store, and if a renewal payment fails, the page shows how long your perks last while you update your payment method.
Fixed
Messages
- Fixed your reply failing to send when the message you replied to got deleted and the reply bar stayed above the message box. Reported by Solaris in #3114.
- Fixed ↑ picking a forwarded message when you tried to edit your last one.
- Fixed the message box breaking when you pasted in a long piece of text that had lots of emoji shortcodes in it. Reported by Fullest in #3917.
- Fixed emoji suggestions disappearing when you typed an emoji name with a tilde (~), such as the
~1suffix on emoji that share the same name. This also works in the +:emoji: quick reaction shortcut. Reported by Tempest in #889. - Fixed your personal notes having no search bar of their own and getting left out of the results when you searched all your direct messages.
- Fixed age-restricted channels blurring or hiding reactions and stickers.
- Fixed link previews in forwarded messages losing the original link's spoiler.
- Fixed the channel icon on forwarded messages not matching the sidebar.
- Fixed messages that mention @everyone or one of your roles losing their highlight when you had suppressed those mentions in the community's notification settings. Suppressed mentions still stay out of your mentions feed.
- Fixed messages that mention you losing their highlight when you hovered over them and they were next to messages from someone you blocked.
- Fixed system messages about blocked users being hidden.
- Fixed emoji in the emoji picker staying blank when they had failed to load. If an emoji fails to load, the app tries loading it again up to three times.
- Fixed middle-clicking a link in an embed, image, profile or message skipping the warning about leaving Fluxer. Reported by Fullest in #3307.
Threads and forums
- Fixed thread member lists not scrolling. Reported by bizo in #3682.
- Fixed thread member lists showing only online or offline for each member. They show each member's status and custom status, like other member lists.

- Fixed the "Leave thread" option showing in red for public threads. For a private thread it's still red and asks you to confirm, and the dialog tells you that you can only come back if someone adds you again. Reported by Fullest in #3687.
- Fixed files that you attached to a new forum or media post getting left out of the post when you published it. Reported by werhas in #3609.

Voice and video
- Fixed your microphone muting or unmuting by itself after you had toggled mute on and off quickly several times. Reported by emilia in #3624.
- Fixed not being able to mute yourself while push-to-talk was turned on. When you're muted, holding the push-to-talk key sends no audio until you unmute. Reported by yofukashino in #704 and suggested by mandss in #3985.
- Fixed your microphone sounding choppy or crackly to others while the app was minimized or out of focus. Reported by LucaFagnoni in #906.

- Fixed the new window closing right away when you popped a call or stream out into a browser window of its own. Reported by penguin in #861.
- Fixed dropdown menus not showing while a call was in full screen.
- Fixed dialogs getting stuck after you left a full-screen call, such as after a camera or microphone prompt in Firefox. Reported by Matty in #875.
- Fixed the voice output device setting not applying in Firefox 123 or later (145 or later on macOS). In browsers that can't choose an output device for voice, the setting is grayed out and says voice uses your system's output device.
Accounts and sign-in
- Fixed avatars, community icons and banners staying blank after they failed to load. The app tries again after a short wait and when you come back to the window, and it reloads images that failed as soon as your internet connection is back.
- Fixed saved accounts on other instances showing the wrong avatar in the switcher and not updating after you changed it. Reported by Eyeflame in #2265.

Reported by defaultuser0 in #3881. - Fixed tapping your avatar in your own profile preview on mobile web trapping you in the preview. Tapping it lets you change your avatar, and the profile window opens in the center of the screen. Reported by AxtraFire in #555.
- Fixed mobile push notifications not being sent when the app was open but you'd been away from it for longer than the "Push notification inactive timeout" in "Notifications" settings. Moving the mouse and scrolling count as activity.

Desktop app
These changes are in the desktop app itself on Windows, macOS and Linux. When a change only applies to some of them, its bullet says which ones.
New
- You can add accounts from other Fluxer instances to the account switcher, and Fluxer.app accounts show the Fluxer badge. Reported by dunny in #3625.
- When you sign in through your browser, it sends you back to the desktop app and you don't have to type a code. If you didn't start a sign-in request, you can decline it in the browser. To sign in with a browser on another device, click "Signing in on another device?", sign in there and enter the code the desktop app shows.
- You can check for updates from the app menu on macOS, the Help menu on Windows and Linux, and the tray menu. A dialog tells you whether you're up to date, whether an update is ready or whether the check failed.
- If you turn on "Disable automatic updates" under "Advanced", the app doesn't install updates when it starts, and you can install a waiting update whenever you like. The setting takes effect the next time the app starts. The
--disable-module-updateslaunch flag and theFLUXER_DISABLE_MODULE_UPDATESenvironment variable turn updates off completely for that launch. Suggested by PJOrange in #4029. - While the app updates, the startup screen shows download progress and speed. If a download stalls, an update fails or startup takes longer than 30 seconds, the startup screen shows "Copy diagnostics" and "Open logs" buttons.
- The tray icon shows a dot when you have unread messages or mentions. On macOS, the icon in the dock also shows a dot when you have unread messages but none of those messages mention you. Suggested by Tim in #4018.
- On Windows and Linux, the tray icon is monochrome to match the taskbar, and "Use colored tray icon" switches it back to color. Suggested by Tim in #4019.
- On Windows, you can choose which playback devices your screen share audio comes from in the "Playback devices" menu of your stream settings.
- On Linux, global shortcuts and push-to-talk work on Wayland through your desktop environment's shortcut settings, with guided setup for GNOME, KDE and Hyprland. Shortcuts that use X11 or listen to your input devices directly still work.
- If you turn on the "Start minimized" setting, the app opens in the system tray, or the menu bar on macOS, when it starts at login. This needs both "Launch Fluxer at login" and the tray icon turned on. Suggested by dCo3lh0 in #1300.
- Themes you import from CSS files or a folder in Theme Studio stay linked to those files, and when you save a change in any editor, the app applies it. You can link an existing theme to a file, or unlink a theme to get a copy to edit in Theme Studio. If a linked file is missing or can't be opened, the theme keeps its last version.
Improved
- The desktop app comes with the Fluxer interface built in, and the interface gets its own updates separately from the app. The app opens as soon as it's installed and doesn't have to download the interface every time it starts.
- When an update is ready, the app waits for you to install it. An update icon shows in the channel header, and the tray menu has "Update Fluxer now", which installs it and reloads the window. The app only restarts for a new version of the desktop app, and on Windows and macOS a waiting update installs when you next start it.
- When an update needs a new version of the desktop app, the update icon shows a download arrow. It spins while an update you started is downloading.
- When we release an update, the app finds it within a couple of minutes. When you click "Check for updates", the app always checks again.
- The app downloads large extras when you first need them, like Chinese, Japanese and Korean fonts, code highlighting, noise suppression and camera effects.
- The desktop app loads images and videos you've seen from its cache.
- On Linux, an out-of-date app doesn't block you with an update screen. It keeps getting the interface updates that work with the version you have, and when a new version of the desktop app is out, the app tells you to update it from your software center or package manager. Reported by Modulus in #3767.
- On Linux, when the app can't find a hardware video encoder it can use, the screen share picker says that sharing uses software encoding.
- On Windows, unread badges on the taskbar are sharp at every display scale, and the "Use dark taskbar badge" setting shows them in dark gray.
- Our Linux Flatpak can use security keys and smart cards for single sign-on.
- "Report issue" in the Help menu and the bug tracker link in the Linux app store listing take you to Fluxer Feedback at feedback.fluxer.com.
Fixed
- Fixed update checks stopping after an earlier check stalled.
- Fixed the desktop app on Windows never trying an update again after it had failed to install. It tries again once a newer release of the app is out.

- Fixed the browser's badge replacing the red unread badge on Windows.
- Fixed the tray icon being too small on KDE Plasma. Reported by _ in #4042.
- Fixed a keyboard shortcut that you bound to F13 also firing whenever you pressed the ⊞ Win key on Windows. Reported by Mizarc in #3248.
- Fixed binding a keyboard shortcut to the Scroll Lock key on Windows also binding that shortcut to the F key. Reported by RDibben in #3488.
- Fixed apps you saved in the Linux screen share audio picker disappearing from it when they weren't running. They stay in the list, and you can remove them.
- Fixed the Flatpak on GNOME not setting you idle when you stepped away.
- Fixed Canary crashing before you signed in. Reported by Oskar in #3868.
- Fixed Fluxer Canary failing to start on networks where IPv6 doesn't work, such as some VPNs. The app tries every IPv6 and IPv4 address it finds for Fluxer and uses the first one that connects. Reported by Fullest in #3637.
iOS and Android
The mobile apps are in public beta. Everything here shipped in betas 1 to 8 of version 2026.10.100. When a change is only on iOS or Android, the bullet says so.
New
Threads, forums and channels
Threads and forums are on for everyone on iOS and Android too. They're still in early beta, and if something breaks, please report it on Fluxer Feedback.
- You can use threads, forum channels and announcement threads in the iOS and Android apps. You can create, browse, join, mute and manage threads, and the thread browser has "Active" and "Closed" tabs and a search bar.
- In a forum post, messages from the person who started it show an "OP" tag.
- If you can manage channels, you can create a channel from a category's menu and move a channel to another category from the channel's menu.
- If you turn on "Open communities to your last channel" under "Look & feel", tapping a community opens the last channel you viewed there. If it's off, the channel list still shows that channel as selected. Suggested by Jonah in #4045.
- You can create announcement channels and publish their messages to every channel that follows them. If you can manage webhooks in a community, you can make one of its channels follow an announcement channel you can see. To stop following a channel, go to "Webhooks" in community settings.
Messages
- New messages slide in, even several at once, and deleted ones fold away.
- You can choose what double-tapping a message does. It can add a reaction, edit the message if it's yours or do nothing, and you can pick which emoji it reacts with. The setting is under "Chat" > "Gestures" and syncs across your devices. Reported by Dinosaur Gnatalie in #3792 and suggested by PolarSky in #3612.
- You can make swiping right to left on a message open channel details in a side panel. Pick it under "Swipe right to left" in "Chat" > "Gestures", and then tapping the channel header opens the panel too. Suggested by multimokia in #3982.
- SVG attachments and embeds show in chat and in the media viewer.
- Links to "Discovery" and "Favorites" in messages open in the app.
- In the list of people who reacted to a message, tapping a person opens their profile, and the list shows the emoji's name. Suggested by Spax in #3981.
- Group chat owners can remove a member from the group by long-pressing them in the group's member list. Reported by Maple~ 💚 in #2237.
Calls and notifications
- You can start or join opt-in peer-to-peer calls, and once everyone agrees to share their IP address, audio and video go directly between everyone in the call for lower latency. A voice channel's menu has "Start P2P call", and "Switch to standard call" moves everyone to a standard call. On iOS, you can't share your screen in them yet. They're an early preview, and you might not have them yet.
- If you're signed in to more than one account, notifications and calls for your other accounts show up while the app is open. Accepting a call for another account switches to it and joins the call. Reported by probablyjassin in #2263.
- On Android, UnifiedPush builds get notifications for all signed-in accounts.
- On Android, message notifications use Android's conversation style and show up to 10 recent messages for each channel or direct message conversation.
Accounts and settings
- On instances that use usernames, you can sign up and sign in with a username, and you can save a recovery kit that lets you reset a forgotten password. You can save the kit as an image file and choose to include your two-factor backup codes in it. Reported by TawnyBaiji and frenzeldk in #3647 and #3684.
- If messaging is paused, a banner tells you and lets you email support with your account ID, username, creation date and the country you type.
- When you report a message or a profile, the app walks you through the report step by step, with a summary to check before you send it. After you send the report, you can also block the person from the confirmation screen.
- You can change individual theme colors on your device under "Look & feel" > "Theme colors". Two switches set whether color changes from Theme Studio on desktop apply here and whether changes you make here show up in Theme Studio.
- You can copy a link to a settings page or section with the link button next to its title, and the link opens that page or section. Suggested by PolarSky in #3616.
- On Fluxer.app, "Give feedback" in "Settings" opens Fluxer Feedback.
- The "You" tab has a "Set status" row with your current or custom status.
- On Android, you can pick an alternate app icon, including "Brutalist", "Greyscale", "Rainbow", "Chromatic aberration", "Starfield", "Sweden" and "Waves". The app has to restart to apply the new icon, and it asks you before it does.
- On iOS, you can pick from more alternate app icons, including "Greyscale", "Rainbow", "Waves", "Chromatic aberration" and "Brutalist".
- On Android, if you installed the app from the Google Play Store, you can buy a Plutonium subscription on Fluxer.app through Google Play Billing.
Improved
Messages and composer
- A message you're sending with attachments shows a thumbnail and a progress bar, and you can cancel it, or retry it if it fails. If you leave the app while it uploads, the upload keeps going, though on iOS only for as long as the system allows.
- Photos and videos you pick from your gallery upload as the original file with their original name, and HEIC photos are converted before they upload.
- If older or newer messages fail to load, the chat says so and lets you retry.
- You can filter message search by who sent a message, who it mentions, the date and the channel, and by whether it's pinned or has links, files or embeds. Results have tabs for messages, images, pins, links and files, and you can remove a recent search or clear them all. Suggested by anon_xd in #3878.
- In the media viewer, long-pressing opens the options menu and "Forward" works. You can download GIFs and embed media, and pinch-to-zoom doesn't swipe the viewer away. Reported by Spax and Eyeflame in #2293 and #3496.
- When something fails, the app tells you why, the same way the web app does. That includes friend requests, sending messages, joining a community or a voice channel, taking moderation actions and making Plutonium purchases.
- As you type, the message box grows up to five lines tall and then scrolls.
- The voice message recorder has a new design.
- The announcement channel notice has a new design.
- LaTeX code blocks show more kinds of math.
- The "You" tab has a "Switch accounts" row that shows your other accounts, or "Add an account" if you're signed in to only one. Suggested by Floogle in #3836.
- Long-pressing a community in the sidebar opens its full menu in a panel.
- When you drag a community or a folder in the sidebar, it moves with an animation and stays inside the sidebar, and the list scrolls when you drag it to the top or bottom edge of the sidebar. Dropping a community right next to another one is less likely to create a new folder by accident. Reported by floosh in #3288.
- The community banner at the top of the channel list collapses as you scroll, and it keeps its size while the list loads. Reported by anon_xd in #2295.
- Community icons in the sidebar change from a circle to a rounded square when you select or press them, and mention badges are rounded squares.
- Channel and direct message lists open at the conversation you're in.
- The screen for creating a channel has a new design, and you can make the new channel private and pick which members and roles can see it.
- On iPhone, a panel behind another one shrinks back, like it does in Safari.
- On iOS, swiping down closes full-screen pages like creating a channel.
- Older confirmation prompts use the same panels as the rest of the app.
Calls
- On phones, the stream you're watching takes the main spot in a call.
- On phones, video tiles in a call stay clear of the call controls.
- Your screen share from the mobile app is capped at 720p and 30 fps, even if you can normally stream at higher quality. Reported by Rey Jonas in #2267.
- In "Grid" view, tapping someone pins them inside the grid without switching to "Focus" view, and tapping them a second time unpins them.
- Your avatar shows on your own tile while you're connecting to a call.
- On phones, when you join a voice channel you're already in on another device, the prompt asking what to do slides up from the bottom of the screen.
- Call video keeps playing without reloading when you minimize or reopen it.
Settings, performance and privacy
- Your recently used emoji, stickers, saved media, mentions and channels sync across your devices. So do the mature content warnings you've accepted and whether photos and videos from the in-app camera are saved to your device.
- The main settings screen has a new design.
- Your name and avatar at the top of settings open your profile settings.
- The Plutonium page in settings has a new design that matches the website. It follows the light theme and stutters less as you scroll through it.
- If you have gifted Plutonium, you can start a paid subscription right away. You pay when you subscribe, and the gift time left is added after the paid period.
- Crash and performance reports work on iOS too, and they're off until you turn on "Send crash and performance reports" in "Advanced" settings.
- We removed the phone number section and SMS verification prompts.
- If the app and an instance aren't compatible, a message tells you whether to update the app or to ask the admins of that instance to update Fluxer.
- The instance picker suggests fluxer.com as the address of Fluxer.app.
- Text that was still in English is translated into every supported language.
- Up to five animated images play at a time in chat, and the rest stay paused.

Self-hosting
These changes are for instance admins, and most of them are in new images on the default v1 tag. The rest are in the installer, the Helm chart and the docs.
New
- There's an official Helm chart for running Fluxer on Kubernetes in
deploy/helm/fluxerin the Fluxer repository. It isn't in a chart repository, and the Kubernetes guide explains how to install it. Suggested by jbmay in #966. - Instance admins can turn on peer-to-peer calls under "Peer-to-peer voice" on the admin panel's "Instance Config" page. It's off by default, and you choose who gets it by percentage of users, country or specific users or communities, whether premium users are included and how many people a call can have, 2 to 4.
- New instances can let people sign up and sign in with just a username. On these instances, every sign-up, sign-in and recovery screen asks for a username, the instance doesn't need to send email, and a recovery kit people can download or print gets them back in if they forget a password. Reported by Tomo in #3709.
- You pick username or email sign-in in the setup wizard, or with
FLUXER_ACCOUNT_IDENTITYbefore the first start, and on email instances you also setFLUXER_TAG_STYLE. Instances already running stay on email sign-in. - Pending registrations have their own page under "Moderation" in the admin panel, with a count badge next to it in the sidebar. Reviewing them needs the new
registration:reviewadmin ACL. Suggested by IamLurking, thefathacker, obergabe and MisterT in #648, #1260, #1463 and #3961. - The Admin API lists pending registrations at
GET /v1/admin/instance/pending-registrationsand leaves them out of the instance config response. - You can load a setting from a file, such as a Docker secret, by adding
_FILEto its name with the file's path as the value. Every Fluxer service supports it, but not the bundled SeaweedFS, Meilisearch and LiveKit containers.FLUXER_ENV,LOG_LEVEL,FLUXER_DISABLE_RATE_LIMITSand theFLUXER_ERLANG_*settings other thanFLUXER_ERLANG_COOKIEneed plain values. Reported by glyph in #3854. - New instances ask for a setup token before you create the first admin account. The installer prints it and saves it as
FLUXER_SETUP_TOKENin.env, and without that variable, the instance writes its token to the api log on the first start. The mobile apps have no field for the token, and you have to do the setup in a browser. - Instance admins can upload the icon, symbol, logo, wordmark and favicon images for their instance on the "Instance Config" page of the admin panel.
- Instance admins can set the screen share bitrate limit from 1 to 50 Mbps with "Max Screen Share Bitrate" under the new "Voice & Video" category in "Limit Config". The default limit is 9 Mbps. Raising the limit also raises the automatic bitrate of every screen share quality, and accounts with Higher Video Quality can pick their own bitrate up to that limit. Suggested by Unvarying8964 in #3479.
- Your instance can send push notifications to a server like ntfy on your own network once you add its hostname to
FLUXER_PUSH_SERVICE_PRIVATE_HOSTS. - Every email your instance sends can have a Reply-To address, which you can set with the
FLUXER_EMAIL_REPLY_TO_EMAILenvironment variable. - The email blocklist in the admin panel accepts whole domains written as @example.com, and a domain entry also blocks all of its subdomains.
- Admins with
report:deletecan delete reports not under a legal hold.
Improved
- You can pick how outgoing email connects (implicit TLS, STARTTLS, opportunistic or none) in the admin panel or with
FLUXER_EMAIL_SMTP_TLS_MODE. If you don't set it in either place and haven't set the olderFLUXER_EMAIL_SMTP_SECUREsetting either, port 465 uses implicit TLS and other ports use STARTTLS. Reported by tetrahydrocannabin0l and TyNavarre in #634 and #3476. - "Save and test" sends a test email with your saved SMTP settings.
- A daily job deletes reports
FLUXER_REPORT_RETENTION_DAYSdays after they're resolved, 365 by default. Even with a lower number, child safety reports are kept for 365 days after they're resolved and reports tied to an enforcement decision for 365 days after it. Reports under a legal hold are kept until the hold ends. TheFLUXER_RESOLVED_REPORT_RETENTION_DAYSsetting is gone. - When you run the installer with
--update(install.shon Linux and macOS orinstall.ps1on Windows), it first checks whether it's out of date. If it is, it asks before replacing itself. If you say no, it stops without changing anything. - The installer downloads every container image before the first start, and if a download fails, it stops with an error before starting anything.
- Fluxer artwork is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. GOVERNANCE.md in the Fluxer repository lets anyone distribute unmodified or lightly patched builds under the Fluxer name and logo. Self-hosted instances running those builds can show the name and logo as long as they don't suggest they're connected to Fluxer.
- When the API goes through a large database table, it loads one page of rows at a time and doesn't reload the whole table for every page.
- The docs list which apps work with your own instance.
- The setup wizard doesn't warn that mobile username sign-in is coming.
- The docs explain that your reverse proxy needs TLS 1.2 turned on for videos to play in the mobile apps, and they list the setting for each common proxy.
- The docs give the right settings for voice signaling on a separate hostname. They also explain what you lose without Valkey and Meilisearch volume backups.
Fixed
- Fixed people who sign up through single sign-on (SSO) not joining the community automatically on single-community instances and on instances with an auto-join invite. Reported by andyndim and dia-nico in #888 and #3489.
- Fixed approved accounts not joining the community from their invite or from
FLUXER_AUTO_JOIN_INVITE_CODE. Reported by dander in #3887. - Fixed people who signed up through an invite link on instances that approve new sign-ups getting stuck after approval with no way to sign in to their account. When a sign-up needs approval, the form asks for a password, and on email instances it also asks for an email address. Reported by KeckigerKeks in #682.
- Fixed SSO sign-in not working on self-hosted instances. With
FLUXER_SSO_ALLOW_PRIVATE_ADDRESSESon, SSO providers on a private network can be discovered automatically. Reported by PaulMColeman in #326. - Fixed a new instance showing the sign-in page and not the setup wizard.
- Fixed self-hosted instances running in development mode when
FLUXER_ENVwasn't set. WithFLUXER_SELF_HOSTED=true, the default isproduction, but if you setFLUXER_ENVyourself, Fluxer uses the value you set. - Fixed pages failing to load when
FLUXER_TRUST_CLIENT_IP_HEADERwas set to anything other thantrue. When the setting is off, the API uses the IP address that the connection comes from. Reported by Tarek in #698. - Fixed file uploads failing on object storage providers that refuse to copy files from one bucket to another, and on any setup that keeps all of its files in a single S3 bucket. Reported by D1reW0lf and dander in #868 and #3926.
- Fixed downloads failing for attachments larger than 500 MiB on instances that allow uploads of that size or bigger. Reported by valtteri in #600.

- Fixed direct messages from the system account showing Fluxer's name and logo in place of the instance's own. Reported by penguin in #900.
- Fixed the instance theme color not applying across the app. It accepts short or long hex values and can be reset in the setup wizard. Picking black counts as no theme color and keeps the default brand color. Reported by Monzi in #814.
- Fixed custom branding images hosted on another domain not loading.
- Fixed the browser tab showing Fluxer's name and icon on self-hosted instances, including while the app was still loading. Fluxer Feedback site
New
- The Bounties board lists bugs our reviewers can't reproduce yet. If a reviewer uses the steps you post, you get the bounty's XP. The board shows the top XP earners for this month and all time, and your profile shows your XP.
- If a bug that we marked fixed still happens, the person who posted it can press "Still happening" to send it back to us and tell us what they tried, which build they used and which platform they're on. For a shipped feature request, the button is "Not resolved". A post can be sent back once each time we close it.
- You can choose to follow every new bug report or feature request automatically in "Settings" > "Notifications". Suggested by SteveLinkNoah in #3578.
- You can filter posts by several tags and hide posts with unwanted tags.
- Each post shows related posts and the other posts that mention it.
- The changelog lists code changes merged since the last release.
- Posts show the pull requests linked to them.
- A Feeds page lists every Atom feed you can follow.
- Every page has its own preview card when you share a link to it.
- You can pick a narrow page width in the footer or settings. You can also search the time zone list. Suggested by hasheleven and frenzeldk in #3765 and #3713.

Also new in September
These are bigger changes from September that we hadn't written about yet.
Fluxer.app
- We replaced hCaptcha with ALTCHA on Fluxer.app. When you sign up, sign in or do something similar that needs a check, the app solves a small proof-of-work challenge in the background. There's no puzzle to click through and no third-party captcha service, and it works the same on web, desktop and mobile.
- You can set your time zone in your profile settings, and when someone looks at your profile, they see your local time and how far ahead of or behind them you are. You choose whether everyone, friends or community members can see it. They see your UTC offset but not the time zone you picked. Suggested by Chai in #907.
- The emoji picker has Unicode 17 emoji on web, desktop, iOS and Android.
Web and desktop app
- In "Voice & video", you can pick None, WebRTC, Noise gate, Speex, RNNoise, GTCRN or DeepFilterNet for noise suppression, out of the ones your device can run.
- From the camera preview in the web and desktop app, you can blur your background or replace it with an image or video. In the web app, this needs a browser that can run camera effects. Uploads can be JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, MP4 or WebM.
- Press Ctrl+↑ or Ctrl+↓ (⌘↑ or ⌘↓ on macOS) to start a reply to the message above or below. Hold Shift (⇧ on macOS) as well to edit your own message above or below. You can change both in "Shortcuts" settings.
- Sending a message that's only a plus sign and an emoji, like
+, adds that reaction to the last message, or to the one you're replying to. - Every permission switch in role and channel permission settings has a short description of what it lets members do in the community.
- Fixed screen shares sometimes not showing up for viewers.
- Fixed screen shares ignoring the resolution, frame rate and bitrate you set.
- Fixed screen shares on Windows using the slower software H.264 encoder when your graphics card could have encoded H.264 in hardware.
Desktop app
- Every desktop release and all of its downloads for each platform are on GitHub Releases. Suggested by ivan-hc and Raviexthegod in #1049 and #1014.
- On Windows, a portable version runs from a ZIP file without installing, keeps its data next to it and doesn't update itself. Suggested by sapioit in #1010.
- On Linux, you can install Fluxer from our apt, dnf and pacman repositories and update it with your package manager. They're in the Linux downloads.
- On Linux, the AppImage updates itself when it's in a folder you can write to.
- Fixed screen share audio on Linux stuttering, skipping or sounding distorted when PipeWire used large audio buffers. Reported by wagnerfs in #799.
iOS and Android
- Message notifications show the sender's avatar.
- You can reply to a message from its notification.
- Reading a channel on another device clears its notifications on your phone.
- When someone calls you in a direct message or group chat, your phone rings even if the app is in the background or closed. On iOS, the call shows up like a regular phone call. This is still an early version, and sometimes a call won't ring.
- In "Look & feel" settings, you can pick a chat wallpaper from colors, gradients, the "Starfield" background or an image of your own, and dim it with a slider. The wallpaper only stays on the device you set it on and doesn't sync.
- You can turn on "Show alternative text on images" in "Accessibility" settings to see alt text below images that have it. Suggested by PolarSky in #2174.
- When you press and hold the Fluxer icon on your home screen, you get shortcuts that take you directly to "DMs", "Search" and "Notifications".
- On iOS, the Shortcuts app has Fluxer actions to mute and unmute, join or leave a voice channel and set your status or custom status. There are also actions to open your direct messages, send a direct message and call a friend.
- You can delete a community you own from its settings.
- On iOS, you can pick the "Starfield" or "Sweden" icon in "App icon" settings.
Self-hosting
- Self-hosted instances have the same built-in ALTCHA check, and it's turned on by default. Instance admins can turn it off or change how hard the challenge is on the admin panel's "Instance Config" page. The
FLUXER_CAPTCHA_settings for hCaptcha and Turnstile are gone, and ALTCHA needs no keys or outside account. - You can run Postgres or the object store outside the bundled stack by pointing the
FLUXER_POSTGRES_*andFLUXER_S3_*settings in.envat them. When Postgres is outside the stack, the installer doesn't back up your database for you during upgrades. It skips backing up uploads only after you turn off the bundled SeaweedFS with theexternal-object-store.compose.ymloverlay. - You can point Fluxer at your own Valkey, NATS, Meilisearch and LiveKit with
FLUXER_KV_URL,FLUXER_NATS_URL,FLUXER_SEARCH_URLandFLUXER_LIVEKIT_INTERNAL_URL. Each of the bundled containers keeps running until you remove it with a Compose override file of your own. - The
external-object-store.compose.ymloverlay turns off the bundled SeaweedFS for your own object store. It needs Compose 2.24.4 or newer. - The installer works with Podman 5 or newer as well as Docker. It uses Podman if Docker isn't installed, and
--engine(-Engineon Windows) picks one. - The
docker-compose.proxy.ymloverlay runs Fluxer behind your own reverse proxy, such as nginx, Traefik or Cloudflare Tunnel. Fluxer then serves plain HTTP on127.0.0.1:8080by default and leaves ports 80 and 443 and TLS to your proxy. You can change the address with theFLUXER_EDGE_BINDsetting. - Instances can sell premium subscriptions and gift codes through their own Stripe account, which you set up under "Premium & Billing" in the admin panel. Premium goes on sale when the premium model is "Mirror", billing is on, a Stripe secret key is set and at least one currency has both a monthly and a yearly price.
- Instance admins can limit who can create communities. On the "Instance Config" page in the admin panel, pick "Restricted" under "Who can create communities". Then only admins and people who get "Community Creation Access" from a limit rule can create communities. Suggested by computerfreek in #1232.
- You can set your own status page under "Public App Identity" in the admin panel, or with
FLUXER_APP_STATUS_PAGE_URLandFLUXER_APP_STATUS_PAGE_INCIDENT_HISTORY_URL. When connecting takes a while, the loading screen links to your status page. If you haven't set one, the loading screen shows no status links. Reported by DefkieHaust in #699. - Fixed the web app breaking with 403 errors if
FLUXER_CLIENT_IP_HEADER_NAMEwas set to anything butX-Forwarded-For. Reported by Tarek in #697.
For bot developers
- In a bot's Ready event,
guildshas an entry for every community on the shard, with onlyidandunavailable: true. It used to be an empty array. The Guild Create and Guild Delete events that follow Ready fill them in, one per community. - Guild Create events sent to a bot have
unavailable: false, except the first for a community the bot joined after Ready, which has nounavailablefield.
Getting the latest version
How Fluxer updates depends on how you installed it. If something in these notes isn't showing up for you, look for the way you installed it in the sections below.
Web
The web app at fluxer.com checks for a new version every 5 minutes and when you return to the tab. When one is out, click the reload icon in the channel header.
Desktop
The desktop app has two parts, the app itself and the Fluxer interface inside it. Official installs of version 2026.1012 or newer get interface updates, and that's how most of the changes in these notes get to you. When one is ready, an update icon shows in the channel header and the tray menu has "Update Fluxer now". To check for one yourself, click "Check for updates" in the tray menu, or in the Fluxer menu on macOS.
Versions before 2026.1012 keep an older interface until the app itself updates.
How the app itself updates depends on how you installed it.
- The Windows installer and the macOS app update themselves.
- The Windows portable version doesn't update itself. When a new version comes out, the app asks you to download it from our download page.
- The Linux AppImage updates itself when it's in a folder you can write to.
- If you use our apt, dnf or pacman repository or our Flatpak, updates come through your package manager or software center like any other app.
- If you downloaded a .deb or .rpm file by itself, it doesn't get updates. Add our repository from the Linux downloads to keep it up to date.
- The tar.gz download doesn't update itself.
If the app on Linux won't pick up an update, click "Restart Fluxer" in the tray menu. A full restart of the app sometimes works when just reloading the window doesn't.
Canary is its own app with its own updates. Get it from the Canary downloads.
Flathub
We make the Flathub version of Fluxer, and it's up to date with the changes in these notes. It updates through your software center like any other app. Our own Flatpak from pkgs.fluxer.com is also available, and both of them use the same app ID.
Packages made by others
Some people package Fluxer for other stores and package managers. We don't run these packages, and the list below says which ones are out of date.
- The
fluxer-binandfluxer-canary-binpackages on the AUR, the Homebrew cask and the winget package all install our own builds and are up to date. On Arch you can also use our pacman repository from the Linux downloads. - The
fluxer-gitpackage on the AUR hasn't been updated since June. Please use our own pacman repository or thefluxer-binpackage. - The
fluxerpackage in the ForkPrince Scoop bucket installs our portable build and is up to date. It updates when you runscoop update fluxer. - The
fluxerpackage in the chrishenn Scoop bucket installs Canary. - The "Fluxer (Unofficial)" Snap hasn't been updated since March. Remove it with
sudo snap remove fluxer-tsugu, install one of ours and sign in again. - Fedora's Terra repository has a
fluxerpackage from August built from Canary code. To switch, tell dnf to skip it, add our repository and upgrade.
sudo dnf config-manager setopt terra.excludepkgs='fluxer*'
sudo curl -fsSL -o /etc/yum.repos.d/fluxer.repo https://pkgs.fluxer.com/rpm/fluxer.repo
sudo dnf upgrade --refresh fluxer
- The
fluxer-canary-binpackage in Gentoo's GURU repository is a Canary build from late September. Use our Flatpak, AppImage or tar.gz. - Fluxer isn't in nixpkgs, and the flakes that people in the community maintain vary in how current they are. Our Flatpak or AppImage works on NixOS.
- Unofficial mobile builds don't get our updates. Use the official apps below.
iOS and Android
The mobile apps are in public beta, and the newest version on GitHub is 2026.10.100 beta 8. TestFlight and Google Play sometimes get new betas after GitHub.
- On iOS, join the beta through TestFlight. To get updates, turn on automatic updates in TestFlight, or open TestFlight and tap "Update" next to Fluxer.
- On Android, the Google Play beta updates like any other app.
- The Obtainium links on the Android download page install GitHub builds and keep them updated. Pick the first if your phone has Google Play services.
- An APK file you downloaded yourself doesn't update on its own. Get the new one from the Android download page, or switch to Google Play or Obtainium.
- Google Play and GitHub builds are signed differently, and you can't install one over the other. To switch, uninstall, install the other build and sign in again.
