Why you get too many or too few notifications on Fluxer

Why notifications you turned off still arrive or none arrive at all, how large communities change the defaults, and why your phone stays quiet on desktop.

Last updated on November 1, 2026

Each community has its own notification settings, and single channels can have their own on top of that. The steps below are for the web and desktop apps.

Why do I get notifications I turned off?

Open "Notification settings" from a community's menu to choose "All messages", "Only mentions" or "Nothing" for that community, or to mute it. Under "Notification overrides" you can give single channels or categories their own setting, and an override wins over the community setting. If you set a channel to all messages, you still get a notification for every message in that channel, even when the community is set to only mentions.

Mentions of @everyone, @here and your roles also count as mentions.

How do @everyone and role mentions work with my settings?

@everyone, @here and role mentions notify you like a mention of your name, even when a community is set to "Only mentions". To stop them, turn on "Suppress @everyone and @here" or "Suppress all role mentions" in that community's "Notification settings".

Why don't I get a push notification for every message?

In large communities, the community's default is "Only mentions", and your phone gets push notifications only for mentions there, even if you chose "All messages".

Why does my phone stay quiet while I'm on my computer?

While you're active in the desktop app, Fluxer waits before it sends push notifications to your phone. "Push notification inactive timeout" in "Notifications" settings sets how long you have to be away from the desktop app first, from 1 to 10 minutes.

Can I set notifications differently for my phone?

Partly. Your notification settings for communities, channels and direct messages are saved to your account and apply on every device. Each community also has a "Mobile push notifications" switch in its "Notification settings", which lets you keep notifications from that community on your computer and turn them off on your phone.

Why do I get fewer notifications from my other accounts?

If you're signed in to several accounts in the desktop app, the others don't notify you about messages older than 2 minutes, such as ones they catch up on after reconnecting. You get at most 5 notifications when lots of messages come in for one of them.

If notifications still don't work the way these settings say, please report it on Fluxer Feedback with your platform and the steps that cause it.
