On Windows, the Fluxer desktop app can't capture some games while they run in fullscreen, and the people watching your stream may see a black screen instead of the game. Until we have a better fix in the app, you can capture the game in OBS Studio and stream its virtual camera in Fluxer. Screen sharing on Windows has a few other limits too.
Why can't I share a fullscreen game on Windows?
For a while, the Windows desktop app captured fullscreen games by hooking into the game you were sharing. Some antivirus software flagged that method, and we've removed the feature from current versions. The desktop app uses the screen capture built into Windows, which can't get the picture from some games while they run in fullscreen.
Why is my game a black screen when I share it?
The game is most likely one of those that Windows can't capture in fullscreen. When that happens, you can try one of these, starting with the quickest one.
- Share your whole screen from the "Entire screen" tab, which sometimes works when sharing the game's window from "Applications" doesn't.
- Switch the game to a borderless or windowed mode, if it has one.
- Capture the game in OBS Studio and stream its virtual camera.
How do I share a game through OBS Studio?
OBS Studio is free and open source streaming software made by the OBS Project, which isn't affiliated with Fluxer. It can capture many games that Windows can't.
- In OBS Studio, add a "Game Capture" source for your game.
- Click "Start Virtual Camera" in the "Controls" dock, as the OBS guide shows.
- In the Fluxer desktop app, start sharing your screen, open the "Devices" tab, select the OBS virtual camera from the list and click "Stream" to start.
The people in the call then see whatever OBS shows, including any scenes you set up there. If "Stream settings" says "No audio from this device", the stream has no game sound of its own, and you can pick another audio input under "Audio device" in the same menu.
Will Fluxer fix game capture?
We're looking at how other apps capture fullscreen games on Windows, which may include working with antivirus companies directly, and we don't have a date for it. Our new voice and video system, planned for 2026, will also improve screen sharing in general.
