Fluxer works with screen readers and keyboard navigation, and you can change how motion, animations, text and links look and behave. Most of these options are in "Accessibility" in your settings. We keep working on accessibility, and many fixes start from reports by people who use these features every day and tell us what's missing.
Does Fluxer work with screen readers?
Yes. The "Screen reader" section of "Accessibility" lets you choose which chat updates your screen reader announces, such as "Announce new messages".
In the "Text-to-speech" section you can set the speech speed and play a sample, and "Speak message" reads a message aloud. Recent releases also added screen reader labels to each emoji in the picker and to the mute and deafen buttons, along with other accessibility fixes that you can read about in the patch notes on our blog.
Can I use Fluxer without a mouse?
Yes. Pressing Tab turns on keyboard mode, and you can then move through buttons, inputs, links, messages and message actions with the keyboard. The "Keyboard" section of "Accessibility" has options for the focus ring around the message box, keybind hints in context menus and whether Escape leaves keyboard mode.
Press ⌘ Command + / on a Mac or Ctrl + / on Windows and Linux to see the keybinds, and Fluxer's keybinds and keyboard shortcuts lists every one. In "Keybinds" settings you can turn built-in keybinds off and on again and add keybinds of your own.
Can I reduce motion and animations?
Yes. The "Motion" section has a reduced motion setting that can follow your system setting, and "Animation" controls when GIFs, animated emoji and stickers play. "Visual" has a saturation slider and options to always underline links and dim strikethrough text.
How do I report an accessibility problem?
Email accessibility@fluxer.com or post it on Fluxer Feedback. It helps to tell us which app and device you use and, if you use one, which screen reader.
