Is Discord killing client mods?

In effect, yes. Discord's new Rust app leaves Vencord, BetterDiscord and other mods nothing to patch, on desktop and on the web once its new web version ships.

Last updated on November 5, 2026

In effect, yes, even though Discord hasn't announced a ban on mods. Client mods such as Vencord, Equicord and BetterDiscord work by patching the JavaScript in Discord's app, and Discord is replacing that JavaScript with compiled Rust code.1 Mods stop working in Discord's new desktop app, and in its web version once the new version ships.2

We expect Discord's new app to be fast and efficient, but people lose a lot with it. Once the new app replaces the current one, you won't be able to use mods and themes to declutter Discord, strip out cosmetics and upsells, or make it look and work your way, as many people do today. That works in favor of Discord's advertising business.

What happens on desktop?

Discord's co-founder and CTO, Stanislav Vishnevskiy, wrote on November 4, 2026 that "Electron goes away" in the new desktop app.1 Desktop mods install by changing files in Discord's Electron app, so they won't work with the new app. CSS themes stop working too, because the new app's interface is compiled Rust code with no CSS to change.

What happens in the browser?

Discord is keeping a web version, and Vishnevskiy wrote that "We will have an HTML renderer for it, but logic will be WASM instead of JS."2 WASM, short for WebAssembly, is compiled code that runs in a browser. Mods that patch Discord's JavaScript in a browser or in apps like Vesktop keep working only until the new web version ships.

CSS themes you add in a browser, for example with the Stylus extension, might partly keep working, because the new web version still draws HTML. That depends on the HTML its new renderer makes, and Discord hasn't said what it will look like.

What do people lose?

Mods and themes let people change every color, font and layout, and hide profile effects, nameplates, the Shop, Nitro offers and Quests. They also block Discord's analytics and crash reports and add accessibility tools Discord doesn't have, as well as everyday tools such as translating messages, channel tabs and transcribing voice messages on your own computer. You can read the full list, mostly in the mods' own words.

Can I still mod Fluxer?

Yes. We'll always allow mods, themes and custom CSS on fluxer.com, as long as you don't use them to break our rules. Our web and desktop apps stay on the web platform, custom CSS is built into the app, and you can read how to mod Fluxer.
