Message and call privacy on Fluxer

How Fluxer handles calls, screen share previews and deleted messages, what changes on a self-hosted instance and where end-to-end encryption stands.

Last updated on November 1, 2026

Fluxer doesn't record the audio or video of calls, and deleted messages are removed from Fluxer, usually within a few minutes. Nobody at Fluxer reads your private messages, and we don't have anyone else read them for us. The only exceptions are four cases where an authorized person on our team looks at the specific messages involved, which are a report, a specific rule break, a credible safety issue or a valid legal request.

Can Fluxer staff read my DMs?

Nobody at Fluxer reads your DMs, and we don't have anyone else read them for us. The only exceptions are the four cases above, where an authorized person on our team looks at the specific messages involved. Deleted messages are removed from Fluxer, usually within a few minutes, and encrypted backups can still have them for up to 30 days.

Does Fluxer record my voice and video calls?

No, Fluxer doesn't record or store the audio or video of your calls. The only image kept from a call is a small screen share preview, which the app makes by default when you share your screen and which only people allowed to join the call can see.

You can turn the preview off when you start sharing, and it stays available for at most 24 hours after the latest upload, as section 7.1 of our privacy policy says.

Can the person running a self-hosted instance read my messages?

The people who run a self-hosted instance control its server, are responsible for your data there and set their own privacy notice and terms. Nothing on Fluxer is end-to-end encrypted yet, so they can access the messages and files on their instance. Once end-to-end encryption for DMs and group DMs is out, self-hosted instances will get it too, and the instance's server won't be able to read those messages.

Are my messages encrypted?

Your messages are encrypted in transit and at rest, but nothing on Fluxer is end-to-end encrypted yet, as section 9 of our privacy policy says. End-to-end encryption for notes, DMs and group DMs is planned as an experimental draft in 2026 and a stable release in 2027. Encrypted calls are planned for 2026 as part of the new voice and video system.
