These are short answers to the questions people ask most often about Fluxer.
Is Fluxer just a Discord clone?
No. Fluxer has a familiar layout and is compatible with large parts of Discord's API. That makes switching easy, and we keep expanding the interface so it feels more like its own app. It also differs from Discord in being open source under the AGPL, free to self-host and made by a small independent Swedish company with no outside investors, and federation and end-to-end encrypted DMs and group DMs are on our roadmap.
Is Fluxer part of Discord?
No. Fluxer isn't owned by or affiliated with Discord. It's made by Fluxer Platform AB in Sweden, and its founder has never been employed by or contracted to Discord.
Is Fluxer vibe-coded?
No, Fluxer isn't vibe-coded. A person who understands the code is responsible for every change and checks it before it ships. You can look through the source code and its full history on GitHub and read the LLM usage policy that outside contributors follow.
Does Fluxer read my private messages?
Fluxer doesn't read your private messages. A person on our team opens specific messages only when someone reports them, when we investigate a specific rule break, for a credible safety issue or for a valid legal request under section 14 of our privacy policy, and even then they open only the content involved. Fluxer doesn't record calls.
When you delete a message, it's removed from fluxer.com, usually within a few minutes. Copies of it in our encrypted backups, or a copy kept because someone reported it, are deleted within the periods that sections 7.3 and 7.4 of our privacy policy set out.
Does Fluxer scan my messages and images?
fluxer.com doesn't check your messages against lists of banned words or phrases, and it doesn't check your files against outside databases of known abuse images. To spot spam, automatic checks on fluxer.com look at signals such as how often messages are sent, the links in them, how old the sending account is and the reputation of its IP address.
Rules that our team writes from real abuse flag likely spam and scams for the team to look into. In some cases they limit an account that is very likely spam until a person on our team reviews it, and you can ask us to lift a limit if it was a mistake.
A link or file that a person on our team flagged as harmful can be blocked from being sent or uploaded again. When someone reports child sexual abuse material, a person on our team confirms it and Fluxer files a report with NCMEC's CyberTipline.
Your sensitive media settings decide whether explicit images are blurred or blocked for you, and an automatic check on Fluxer's servers tells the app which images are explicit. That check never punishes accounts or files reports about anyone.
Does Fluxer do age verification or ask for ID?
No. Fluxer doesn't verify ages and never asks for or accepts ID, selfies or face scans, and the app asks for your date of birth only after you sign up. The one check we ever offered was a privacy-friendly zero-amount card check in the UK, and we removed it because few people used it. If someone reports you as under age, you don't have to send us any ID.
Will a new law force Fluxer to check my ID or face?
Fluxer never asks for ID or face scans, and that hasn't changed for any law. Where a law needs age checks for adult content, we lock age-restricted content in that region, and where it needs them for every account, fluxer.com is unavailable there. Here's how today's laws treat apps like Fluxer, including the KIDS Act, which isn't law.
Does Chat Control make Fluxer scan my messages?
Fluxer doesn't scan your messages or files for child abuse material, and as of October 2026 no EU law requires it to. The EU rule in force lets services scan only if they choose to, and the proposed law that people call Chat Control 2.0 is still being negotiated. Our article about scanning and Chat Control explains what fluxer.com checks today.
Is Fluxer blocked in Brazil?
No. People in Brazil can sign up for Fluxer and use it, and only age-restricted communities, channels and media are unavailable there under Brazil's Digital ECA, because Fluxer never checks ages with IDs, biometric data or CPF numbers anywhere.
Does Fluxer need my phone number?
No. You don't need a phone number to sign up or to use Fluxer, and texting a code is never the only way to lift a pause on messaging. If our spam rules pause messaging on your account, you can text a code from your phone to our verification number, or you can reply to the email and ask our support team to verify you by hand without a phone number.
Is Fluxer a scam, or only after money?
No. Hampus Kraft started Fluxer as a high school project in 2020 and built it in private for years with a group of testers until fluxer.com opened to everyone in January 2026. It's run by Fluxer Platform AB, the registered Swedish company he founded.
fluxer.com is free to use and has no ads, we don't sell, rent or license your messages or any other personal data, and the optional Plutonium subscription, Operator Pass purchases and donations fund our servers and development. The code is open source under the AGPL, so anyone can read it, check it and run it on their own instance.
Is Fluxer malware?
No. Some antivirus software flagged older builds of the Windows desktop app because their screen sharing hooked into games to capture them. We removed that feature on August 29, 2026, so builds released since then don't hook into any games at all.
Is Fluxer a Swiss or an American company?
Neither. Fluxer is run by Fluxer Platform AB, a company registered in Sweden, and there's no US company behind it. Most of fluxer.com's data is hosted in the United States today, and we're moving fluxer.com to our own hardware in Sweden.
Is Fluxer hosted in the US, and does it send data to the US government?
We never hand over your data just because a government asks, including the US government, and section 4.3 of our privacy policy lists the limited cases where we disclose any data. A government outside the EU has to go through Swedish authorities, and when we get a legal request, we review it and tell you about it before we disclose anything in response, apart from the exceptions listed in section 14.
Today most of fluxer.com's stored data is hosted with Vultr in New Jersey, in the United States, and we're moving to our own hardware in Sweden. Our article on the CLOUD Act explains which US laws apply to data while it's hosted in the US.
Is Fluxer new, and why haven't I heard of it?
Fluxer started as a high school project in 2020, and fluxer.com opened to everyone as a public beta in January 2026, with only a few hundred accounts. We haven't bought ads or run a marketing campaign yet, which is why you might not have heard of it.
Is Fluxer unreliable?
fluxer.com has been stable for months, and short disruptions still happen sometimes during denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks on our network or problems with our hosting. fluxer.com struggled in February 2026, when more than 100,000 accounts were created in 16 days while Fluxer still ran on a single server, and that was fixed quickly. Our status page at fluxerstatus.com shows the current status and uptime of fluxer.com.
Is Fluxer dead or shutting down?
No. We post patch notes on our blog, keep our roadmap up to date and have no plans to shut down fluxer.com or stop working on Fluxer. Fluxer's code is open source, so if Fluxer ever stopped, anyone could keep running it on their own instance.
Does Fluxer care about self-hosting?
Yes. Self-hosting Fluxer is free, and you get the whole open source Fluxer software with no license key, paid tier or reduced edition. There's also an official Helm chart for running Fluxer on Kubernetes, and the official desktop and mobile apps can connect to self-hosted instances alongside fluxer.com, and you can use both in one app. On a self-hosted instance, Fluxer has none of that instance's messages, files or accounts.
Is Fluxer ban-proof?
Not on fluxer.com, where we enforce our terms and community guidelines, and you can appeal any decision we make. On a self-hosted instance, its own admins moderate it, and Fluxer staff can't ban anyone from an instance we don't run.
Does Fluxer have end-to-end encryption?
Not yet. Nothing on Fluxer is end-to-end encrypted today, calls included, and your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. End-to-end encrypted calls are planned with the new voice and video system in 2026. For notes, DMs and group DMs, it's planned as an experimental draft in 2026 and a stable release in 2027, and neither will have an off switch.
Is Fluxer federated, or based on Matrix?
Not yet, and it isn't based on Matrix. Fluxer has its own API and real-time gateway, and each instance is separate from the others for now. Optional federation built on polyproto is on our roadmap as an experimental draft in 2026 and a stable release in 2027, and our roadmap post explains why we chose polyproto over Matrix for federation.
Do I need a separate account for every community?
No. One fluxer.com account can join many communities. You only need a separate account per instance, and the apps can sign in to several instances at once.
Does Fluxer use AI for moderation or support?
No AI decides on reports, bans or appeals or handles support, because a person on our team does all of that. Our spam filters are rules our team writes from known abuse patterns, and you can appeal anything they do to a person on our team.
The only machine learning that checks what you post is a small image classifier, which isn't generative AI. It tells the app which images are explicit for your sensitive media settings, and it never punishes accounts or files reports about anyone.
Is Fluxer really open source, and could it go closed source?
The Fluxer software is open source, and the server, web app and desktop app are published under the AGPL v3.0 or later, and the iOS and Android apps have been open source since June 2026. Contributors keep the copyright in their work, and Fluxer has had no CLA since February 18, 2026, so Fluxer Platform AB can't relicense work sent since then without their permission. Every published version stays available under the AGPL.
Did Fluxer rewrite itself in private in 2026?
In spring 2026, Hampus experimented with a rewrite of several components, aiming to make Fluxer run as a single binary. It was a separate, private experiment shared with Visionaries and a few others as a test group. It never shipped, and the parts we kept were later added to the public codebase that everyone can use.
Does Fluxer track me or sell my data?
No. Fluxer has no third-party analytics, no fingerprinting and no cross-site tracking, and we don't sell, rent or license your messages or other personal data, as our privacy policy says. To keep accounts safe and spot spam, fraud and abuse, we keep security records, such as IP addresses you sign in from, as long as our privacy policy says.
Does Fluxer train AI on my messages?
No, Fluxer never trains AI on your messages. Our terms say we never use your content to train, fine-tune or evaluate AI models, or sell or license it for anyone else's use.
Can other people see my IP address?
No, other people and bots don't get your IP address from Fluxer, and regular calls go through our voice servers. In peer-to-peer calls the people in the call can see each other's IP addresses, and the app asks before you join one unless you chose to always agree.
Does Fluxer record my calls?
No, Fluxer doesn't record or store voice or video calls. When you share your screen, the app makes a small preview image by default so people who can join the call see what you're sharing, and you can turn it off when you start sharing your screen. The preview is kept for at most 24 hours, as section 7.1 of our privacy policy says.
Does Fluxer have threads and forums?
Yes. Threads, forum channels and media channels came out in early beta for everyone on October 16, 2026. Public forums are planned as an experimental draft in 2026, and today search engines can't find any of your messages or communities on Fluxer.
Can I share my screen with audio on Fluxer?
Yes. The desktop app can share audio with your screen on Windows, macOS and Linux, and in the web app it depends on your browser. On Windows, the desktop app can't capture some fullscreen games yet. Screen sharing has become much more stable, and our new voice and video system, planned for 2026, will improve it further.
Does Fluxer have mobile apps?
Yes. The iOS and Android apps are open source. On Android you can join the Google Play beta, and the full release on Google Play is planned for 2026. Our TestFlight beta for iOS is on hold for now, and we expect Fluxer to be on the App Store in early November 2026. Until then, any Fluxer app you find in the App Store isn't one of ours.
Does Fluxer have bots and slash commands?
Fluxer has bots that can use the API and real-time gateway, join voice channels and respond to messages. Slash commands, components and interactions for bots are planned for 2026, and until then bots on Fluxer can use prefix commands. Fluxer is compatible with large parts of Discord's API, but a Discord bot has to be set up to run as a Fluxer bot.
Are third-party clients allowed on Fluxer?
Yes. Fluxer welcomes third-party and modified clients, themes and automating your own account, as long as you don't use them to harm other people or the service.
Is Plutonium a paywall for basic features?
No. Plutonium is an optional subscription that raises your own account's limits on fluxer.com. Communities, voice and video calls, screen sharing and a community's own emoji and stickers are free for everyone, and no purchase upgrades a community.
Is Fluxer still in beta, and do I need an invite?
You don't need an invite code, because sign-up on fluxer.com is open to everyone. A self-hosted instance can choose to approve each new account itself or to close sign-up. The Android app is in public beta, and its full release on Google Play is planned for 2026. Our TestFlight beta for iOS is on hold for now following a technical issue at Apple, and we expect the Fluxer iOS app to be on the App Store in early November 2026.
Is r/FluxerApp official?
No. Fluxer doesn't run, endorse, moderate or take part in any subreddit, and r/FluxerApp and other Reddit communities are unofficial, as our company information page says. You can check which sources are official before you trust a post or a link.
Why do old reviews and AI answers say outdated things about Fluxer?
Fluxer changes quickly, and many reviews and AI answers predate threads and forums, the open source mobile apps or the new self-hosting guide. We post patch notes on our blog, keep the roadmap up to date and list every policy change in our changelog.
Some answers online say Fluxer is hosted in Europe or is end-to-end encrypted, but neither is true today. Each answer here links to the policy or article its facts come from.
