Why won't Obtainium update Fluxer on Android?

If Obtainium says it can't install an older version of Fluxer, uninstall Fluxer once and install it again from Obtainium, then sign in again.

Last updated on November 2, 2026

If you installed Fluxer on Android with Obtainium, it may refuse to update to 2026.11.100 Beta 1 or later and show "Cannot install an older version of an app". You need to uninstall Fluxer once and install it again from Obtainium, and then it updates as usual.

Why does Obtainium think the new version is older?

Android uses a build number in each APK to decide whether it's newer than the app on your phone. Before 2026.11.100 Beta 1, the Fluxer APKs made for a single phone architecture had build numbers that were too high, and that release corrected them. Because the new build number is lower than the old one, Obtainium and Android see the new beta as an older version and won't install it over the version you have installed.

This happens with both builds, which you get from "Obtainium (most phones)" and "Obtainium (degoogled phones)" on our Android download page.

How do I install Fluxer again from Obtainium?

Before you start, make sure you know your password and have your second factor, because you'll need to sign in again. Our article on clean reinstalls has the full list.

  1. Open Obtainium and tap Fluxer.
  2. Tap the trash can button, which has the label "Remove".
  3. When Obtainium asks "Remove app?", turn off "Remove from Obtainium", turn on "Uninstall from device" and tap "Continue" to uninstall Fluxer.
  4. Confirm that you want to uninstall Fluxer when Android asks.
  5. On the Fluxer page in Obtainium, tap "Install".

If Fluxer isn't in Obtainium anymore, uninstall it in your phone's settings if it's still installed. Then open our Android download page and tap the same Obtainium button you used before to add Fluxer to Obtainium again, and then tap "Install" in Obtainium.

What happens to my account when I reinstall?

Your messages, communities and account settings are kept with your account, and they come back when you sign in. Uninstalling deletes everything the app stored on your phone, and you need to sign in to each account again. Messages you started typing but didn't send are deleted, and settings saved only on this phone go back to their defaults.

The old sign-in from before the reinstall stays on your account until you remove it. You can sign it out from "Linked devices" in settings, or sign out in Fluxer before you uninstall it.

Who doesn't need to do this?

If Obtainium updates Fluxer to 2026.11.100 Beta 1 or later without showing this message, you don't need to do anything. You only need to reinstall Fluxer once, because each beta after 2026.11.100 Beta 1 gets a higher build number than the one before it.

If you download APKs yourself, the universal build installs over the old one as usual. The builds for a single architecture, such as arm64-v8a, have the same problem, and you need to uninstall Fluxer before you install the new APK. Our article about the Fluxer APK explains the different builds and which one of them your phone needs.

The Google Play beta updates through Google Play, and Obtainium doesn't install or update it. It's signed differently from the APKs on GitHub, and one can't update the other.
