You can run Fluxer yourself, read and change all of its code, and use the same apps with fluxer.com and your own instance side by side. Fluxer also has peer-to-peer calls, and its terms promise that your content is never used to train AI models.
What can Fluxer do that Discord can't?
These are the main things that set Fluxer apart.
- Fluxer is free and open source under the GNU AGPL, version 3.0 or later, and anyone can run, study, change and share it under the same license.
- You can host your own instance for free, with no license key or paid tier, and Fluxer has none of the messages, files or accounts on your own instance.
- The desktop and mobile apps can sign in to several Fluxer instances at the same time, and you can use fluxer.com and a self-hosted instance side by side.
- Calls can connect peer-to-peer once everyone in the call agrees to let the others see their IP address, and then everyone in the call can stream at up to 4K and 60 fps for free. It's an early preview that fluxer.com is turning on country by country.
- You can delete your own messages in bulk with "Delete my messages" under "Privacy" in "User settings", choosing the kinds of conversations, the communities and a date range, even in communities you've left or been banned from.
- Section 3.1 of our terms rules out using your content to train, fine-tune or evaluate AI models. Fluxer also shows no ads and doesn't sell, rent or license your messages or any other personal data or share it with anyone for their advertising.
- Fluxer is made by Fluxer Platform AB, a small independent Swedish company with no venture capital and no outside investors. Hampus Kraft founded it and still leads Fluxer's development, which began as his high school project.
- A government outside the EU can't enforce an order for your data against Fluxer without going through Swedish authorities. Until we move fluxer.com's stored data to our own hardware in Sweden, which has no date yet, US authorities can also send orders to our US hosting provider, as our CLOUD Act article explains.
Why switch from Discord to Fluxer?
People switch for their own reasons, and the differences above are a good place to start. Fluxer's layout will feel familiar, and you can copy your Discord server's channels and roles into Fluxer. fluxer.com is free to use, and Plutonium is an optional subscription that raises your own account's limits, such as the largest file size you can upload.
What is Fluxer planning that Discord doesn't have?
These items on our Roadmap 2026 are planned and aren't available yet.
- Optional federation, so that people on different instances can talk to each other, with an experimental draft in 2026 and a stable release in 2027 (roadmap #3).
- End-to-end encryption for personal notes, DMs and group DMs with no off switch, as an experimental draft in 2026 and a stable release in 2027 (roadmap #4).
- An optional public web mode for forum channels, where anyone can read a public forum without an account, find its posts in search engines and follow it with RSS or Atom feeds, with an experimental draft planned for 2026 (roadmap #5).
- Equipping emoji and stickers from a community you're in and keeping them on your account after you leave, planned for 2026 (roadmap #7).
Nothing on Fluxer is end-to-end encrypted today, but your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, as section 9 of our privacy policy says. We'll announce each one when it's out.
