Fluxer and GameVox are both new chat apps from small companies with no investors, and both look familiar if you've used Discord. Fluxer is open source, you can self-host it for free with no central sign-in, and every community on fluxer.com is free, with up to 500 custom emoji and 500 stickers that its members can use for free in that community.
GameVox hasn't published its source code, and new self-hosted GameVox servers cost money and still sign people in through GameVox. GameVox is ahead on mobile apps, community tools, gaming extras such as an in-game overlay and proximity voice, and free upload limits, and its free screen share is sharper than in Fluxer's standard calls.
How do Fluxer and GameVox compare at a glance?
The GameVox column is taken from GameVox's own website, pricing page, privacy policy and app store listings as of November 2026, and its prices and limits can change.
| Fluxer | GameVox | |
|---|---|---|
| Source code | Open source under the AGPL | No published source code, as of November 2026. Its licenses page lists only third-party parts. |
| Self-hosting | Free, with no central sign-in | US$2 a month, US$15 a year or US$70 once, with sign-in through GameVox |
| What you pay for | Plutonium, an optional upgrade for your own account | Paid tiers for each server, from US$4.99 to US$19.99 a month |
| Free screen share | Up to 720p at 30 fps, or up to 4K at 60 fps in peer-to-peer calls, which are an early preview in some countries and show your IP address to the others in the call | Up to 1080p at 30 fps |
| Free file size | 25 MB per file | 500 MB per file |
| Custom emoji in a free community | Up to 500 | None on the free Standard tier |

Is Fluxer free like GameVox?
Yes. An account on fluxer.com is free, and so are communities, messages, voice and video calls and screen sharing. Plutonium is an optional subscription from US$4.99 a month that raises your own account's limits, and it can't upgrade a community.
GameVox charges for each community, which it calls a server. As of November 2026, its free Standard tier allows 100 members, 5 voice channels, 8 text channels and no custom emoji, and the paid Silver, Gold and Diamond tiers raise those limits. A community needs a paid tier above 100 members, and Diamond at US$19.99 a month above 500.
| Free community | Fluxer | GameVox Standard |
|---|---|---|
| Channels | 500 of any type | 5 voice and 8 text |
| Highest voice channel bitrate | 96 kbps | 64 kbps |
| Custom emoji | 500, plus 500 stickers | None |
| Paid tiers that raise these limits | None | US$4.99 to US$19.99 a month |
On fluxer.com, every community can have up to 500 custom emoji and 500 stickers, and every member of that community can use them there for free.
Who owns GameVox?
GameVox is made by LightSpeed Gaming LLC in Ohio, and it says it has "No venture capital. No investors. No board of directors. No plans to go corporate."12
Can I self-host Fluxer and GameVox for free?
You can self-host Fluxer for free. There's no license key, paid tier or reduced edition, and your costs are the usual ones for running a website, such as the machine, the domain name and an email service if you want people to sign in with email.
A self-hosted Fluxer instance doesn't depend on a central sign-in system that we run, and every account is created on the instance itself. As the admin, you decide who can create an account, you can turn on single sign-on with your own identity provider, and every published version of Fluxer stays open source for anyone to keep running.
GameVox's self-hosting guide says servers set up before July 1, 2026 are free forever. As of November 2026, new self-hosted servers cost US$2 a month, US$15 a year or US$70 once, and a lifetime purchase belongs to one server "for as long as GameVox runs." GameVox's self-hosted page says chat messages and uploaded files stay on your own server, while user accounts, sign-in, billing status and access control rules stay on GameVox's cloud.
Is Fluxer open source, and is GameVox?
Fluxer is free and open source under the AGPL. The server, web app and desktop app are in the fluxer repository on GitHub, and the iOS and Android apps are in the flutter_client repository. You can also use third-party clients, themes and custom CSS.
GameVox hasn't published the source code of its apps or servers. Its licenses page, which it says shows placeholder data for now, lists only the third-party parts it builds on, and its public GitHub account has release builds of its Android app.
Which is better for privacy, Fluxer or GameVox?
Fluxer shows no ads and uses no third-party analytics, fingerprinting or cross-site tracking. It never asks for a phone number to sign up and never asks for ID or face scans.
Fluxer is a Swedish company, and we're moving fluxer.com's stored data from US hosting to our own hardware in Sweden, with a provider that Mullvad VPN also uses. A government outside the EU can't enforce an order for data against Fluxer Platform AB without going through Swedish authorities. Until the move, which has no date set yet, US authorities can also send orders directly to our US hosting provider, as our CLOUD Act article explains.
GameVox also shows no ads in its app and says it doesn't sell your personal information. GameVox's press page says sign-up needs no email, phone number or ID, and its privacy policy lists an email address among the details it collects when you create an account.
The policy also says GameVox's cloud service runs on Amazon Web Services in several regions, and that GameVox uses Google Analytics on its website and in its app. Its website and web version load a Reddit advertising pixel, and its desktop app doesn't.
Under our terms, we may use your content only as needed to run the features you use, we never train AI on it, and our license to it ends when you delete it. GameVox's terms give it a license to "use, modify, reproduce, and distribute" your content "solely for the purpose of providing and improving the Service," and they don't say when it ends.
On Fluxer, you can export your data yourself at any time, and "Delete my messages" deletes your messages in bulk, including in communities you've left.
GameVox's privacy policy says you can request a copy of the data it holds about you by sending an email to its support team, and that after you delete your account, your messages "may be retained in anonymized form or deleted based on server settings."
Fluxer plans end-to-end encryption with no setting to turn it off, for calls in 2026 and for DMs and group DMs with a stable release in 2027, and until encrypted calls are out, nothing on Fluxer is end-to-end encrypted. GameVox's press page says its voice calls are end-to-end encrypted with the X25519 key exchange and NaCl secretbox.
GameVox makes no such claim for text, and its privacy policy says messages and files are sent over TLS. The same policy describes voice and video as encrypted in transit with WebRTC and doesn't mention end-to-end encryption. GameVox hasn't published its source code, and people outside the company can't check how its voice encryption works. We couldn't find an independent audit of it as of November 2026.
What makes Fluxer different from GameVox?
Self-hosting Fluxer needs no license key, and the official desktop and Android apps connect to your instance. On a self-hosted instance, Fluxer has none of its messages, files or accounts. Optional federation is planned with a stable release in 2027, and the protocol it builds on includes moving your account to another instance.
If we act against your account or content on fluxer.com, section 6.2 of our terms promises you a statement of the reasons and a free appeal that people on our team review. GameVox's terms say it may suspend or end an account "at any time, without prior notice, for any reason," and they don't describe a way to appeal.
Both apps have forum channels, and Fluxer's threads and forums are in early beta. Fluxer's forum channels will get an optional public web mode that anyone can read without an account, with an experimental draft planned before the end of 2026.
Where is GameVox ahead of Fluxer?
GameVox has several things that Fluxer doesn't have yet.
- Its mobile apps are already released on the App Store and Google Play. Fluxer's TestFlight beta for iOS is on hold for now, and we expect Fluxer's iOS app to be on the App Store in early November 2026. Android is in the Google Play beta.
- It has built-in AutoMod, polls, events and a soundboard. Fluxer has no built-in AutoMod or polls, and neither is on the roadmap. Many Fluxer communities use bots for word filters and spam checks, and a soundboard and scheduled events are planned.
- It has an in-game overlay, and its proximity voice works in FiveM, RedM, RAGE:MP and alt:V, where your voice gets quieter the farther away your character is.
- Its free tier allows bigger files than Fluxer's free accounts, and its free screen share is sharper than in Fluxer's standard calls, as the table above shows.
- Its Discord import brings over channels, roles, rules, scheduled events, soundboard sounds, the server's icon and banner and, on paid tiers, emoji. Fluxer's template import copies your channels, your roles and the permissions of each role.
- Its bots can use slash commands and message components, which are planned for Fluxer bots in 2026, and until then Fluxer bots can use prefix commands.
How stable are Fluxer and GameVox?
Both apps are young. fluxer.com opened to everyone in January 2026, struggled during a rush of new users in February and became stable over the following months, apart from short disruptions during denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks on our network or problems with our hosting. It had more than 500,000 accounts in October 2026 and publishes its current status at fluxerstatus.com, but it has no uptime guarantee.
GameVox went into open beta in March 2026, and as of November 2026 it's still a beta, publishes no user numbers and has no public status page we could find. Its maker, LightSpeed Gaming, has hosted voice servers since 2004 and bought Ventrilo in 2023.
How do I try Fluxer?
You can download Fluxer for Windows, macOS, Linux and Android or open fluxer.com in your web browser and make a free account. If you are bringing a community from Discord, here's how to move it over. Our roadmap lists what's planned next.
