Fluxer vs TeamSpeak: is Fluxer a good TeamSpeak alternative?

Fluxer is open source, free to self-host with no license key and free for communities on fluxer.com. How it compares with TeamSpeak on price, privacy, features, apps and stability.

Last updated on November 1, 2026

Fluxer is a chat app for communities, with text channels that keep their history, voice and video calls and screen sharing. The biggest differences from TeamSpeak are that Fluxer's code is open source, a community on fluxer.com is free and self-hosting is free with no license key, where TeamSpeak's free server licenses allow up to 32 slots.

TeamSpeak is a voice chat app that has been around since 2001, built for low-latency voice on servers groups run or rent, and some of its chats, such as global chat, are end-to-end encrypted. Nothing on Fluxer is end-to-end encrypted yet. We plan it with no setting to turn it off, for calls in 2026 and for DMs and group DMs with a stable release in 2027.

How do Fluxer and TeamSpeak compare at a glance?

The table below shows Fluxer and TeamSpeak as of November 2026, and TeamSpeak's details come from its own website, help center, community forum and GitHub.

Is Fluxer free like TeamSpeak?

Yes. An account on fluxer.com is free, and so are communities, messages, voice and video calls, screen sharing at up to 720p and 30 fps and self-hosting. Plutonium is an optional subscription for US$4.99 a month or US$49.99 a year that raises your own limits, such as 4K screen sharing at 60 fps, and it can't upgrade a community.

The TeamSpeak desktop app is free to download and use. TeamSpeak's hosted Communities start with a free trial, and its plans then cost US$4.99 a month for 10 + 1 slots, US$8.99 for 25 + 2 slots and US$17.99 for 60 + 4 slots. A free non-commercial TeamSpeak 3 server that you run yourself is limited to one virtual server and 32 slots.

Which company runs TeamSpeak?

TeamSpeak's terms are a contract with TeamSpeak Systems, Inc. in California, unless an order or agreement says the other party is TeamSpeak Systems GmbH in Germany.1

Is Fluxer open source, unlike TeamSpeak?

Yes. Fluxer is open source under the AGPL, including the server, the web and desktop apps and the iOS and Android apps, and anyone can read, change and share its code. Third-party clients, themes and custom CSS are allowed on fluxer.com as well.

TeamSpeak is closed source. Its terms grant a "limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license" and don't allow reverse engineering, and its TeamSpeak 6 server repository has setup files for a prebuilt server and no source code. TeamSpeak's help center says the TeamSpeak 6 client doesn't let you add your own scripts, bots, add-ons or remote apps yet, and that you can install skins made by other people.

Can I host Fluxer myself like a TeamSpeak server?

Yes. Self-hosting Fluxer is free, with no license key, paid tier or reduced edition. The Operator Pass is a one-time purchase with a numbered certificate, and you never need it to self-host. You need a 64-bit Linux, macOS or Windows machine with at least 4 GB of memory and a domain name, and the setup tool rexctl installs it with one command.

Anyone can run a Fluxer instance, including companies and organizations, with no limit on how many people use it and nothing to pay us. The AGPL's permissions can't be taken back as long as you follow its conditions, as our open source article explains. On your own instance, every account gets Plutonium's features by default, including screen sharing at up to 4K and 60 fps, and you can change those limits as the admin.

Fluxer staff can't ban anyone from an instance they don't run, and a self-hosted instance doesn't depend on a sign-in system run by Fluxer. The official desktop and Android apps connect to any instance. In the official mobile apps, notifications go through our push relay only if both the instance admin and the person using the app turn it on.

TeamSpeak's Activation/Gamer License for self-hosted TeamSpeak 3 servers is for individuals and non-commercial groups, and it costs from US$55 a year for 64 slots to US$500 a year for 1,024 slots. Companies need TeamSpeak's Commercial License, which is priced individually, and neither license allows hosting servers for other people.

You can also run the TeamSpeak 6 server beta yourself, with a 32-slot license that is renewed every two months until TeamSpeak finalizes licensing and pricing, and licenses bought for TeamSpeak 3 don't work with TeamSpeak 6 servers.

Is Fluxer more private than TeamSpeak?

Fluxer shows no ads, doesn't sell, rent or license your messages or any other personal data or share it with anyone for their advertising, uses no third-party analytics or fingerprinting and doesn't build behavioral profiles. It also never uses your content to train AI.

The Fluxer web and desktop apps send us no usage analytics or crash reports. The iOS and Android apps send crash reports only if you turn on "Send crash and performance reports", which is off by default, as section 2.2 of our privacy policy says.

TeamSpeak's privacy policy says it doesn't sell personal data for money. Section 3.4 of the same policy says the client, server and usage data it processes may include your device, operating system, IP address, crash logs, diagnostic data and feature usage.

TeamSpeak uses the Microsoft Clarity analytics tool on selected public pages of its website, and only after consent in the EU, the UK and other places that require it. In June 2026 TeamSpeak said in its community forum that it had stopped using advertising trackers.

TeamSpeak's homepage says its global chat is end-to-end encrypted today, and private group chats can be end-to-end encrypted. The homepage also says AES-based encryption is standard and that security can be set at the server or channel level.

Fluxer encrypts messages, files and calls in transit. End-to-end encryption is planned with no setting to turn it off, for calls in 2026 and for DMs and group DMs with a stable release in 2027, and until encrypted calls are out, nothing on Fluxer is end-to-end encrypted.

Fluxer is a Swedish company, and we're moving fluxer.com's stored data from US hosting to our own hardware in Sweden, with a provider that Mullvad VPN also uses. A government outside the EU can't enforce an order for data against Fluxer Platform AB without going through Swedish authorities. Until the move, which has no date set yet, US authorities can also send orders directly to our US hosting provider, as our CLOUD Act article explains.

How does text chat compare between Fluxer and TeamSpeak?

Messages in a Fluxer community's text channels stay until someone deletes them, and you can search all of them. TeamSpeak 6 lets you chat with your contacts, and TeamSpeak has public and private group chats and a global chat that are synced across your devices.

TeamSpeak doesn't have server-wide text channels that keep their history yet. In February 2026 its community manager wrote in TeamSpeak's community forum that TeamSpeak is "open to the Idea of having server-wide/persistent text channels".

Fluxer also has threads and forums in early beta and bots that use an API compatible with large parts of Discord's. TeamSpeak servers can run bots through ServerQuery too.

fluxer.com runs voice servers in 16 regions on six continents, and each call uses the region closest to the first person who joins it, unless its channel is set to a specific region. TeamSpeak's hosted Communities run in Amsterdam, Frankfurt, New York and Toronto as of November 2, 2026. A TeamSpeak server you run yourself or rent can be anywhere.

Which apps does Fluxer have compared with TeamSpeak?

Fluxer works in your web browser at fluxer.com and has desktop apps for Windows, macOS and Linux. We expect the iOS app on the App Store in early November 2026, with the TestFlight beta on hold for now, and the Android app is in the free Google Play beta.

TeamSpeak 6 is a desktop beta for Windows, macOS and Linux. Its downloads page lists iOS and Android apps only for TeamSpeak 3, which cost US$0.99 in the App Store and Google Play as of November 2026. On October 21, 2026, TeamSpeak's community manager wrote that "a new mobile app is definitely needed" and that the team is exploring options.

Is Fluxer as stable as TeamSpeak?

TeamSpeak has about 25 years of releases, and TeamSpeak 3 is its stable version. TeamSpeak 6 has been a public beta since January 2025, and the terms say the end of life of TeamSpeak 3 is targeted for completion by December 31, 2027.

On February 14, 2026, TeamSpeak said a surge of new users meant no capacity was left for creating new Communities in many regions, especially in the United States. Two days later it opened two new regions where people could create Communities.

fluxer.com opened to everyone in January 2026 and had outages in February, when more than 100,000 accounts were created in 16 days and it still ran on a single server. It became stable over the following months, apart from short disruptions during denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks on our network or problems with our hosting. You can check fluxerstatus.com for its current status and uptime, and Fluxer has no uptime guarantee.

What makes Fluxer different from TeamSpeak?

Fluxer is free and open source under the AGPL, and the official desktop and Android apps connect to your own instance. On a self-hosted instance, Fluxer has none of its messages, files or accounts. We also plan optional federation, with a stable release in 2027, and the protocol it builds on includes moving your account to another instance.

You can export your data yourself at any time with "Export my data" and delete your own messages in bulk with "Delete my messages" under "Privacy" in "User settings".

Fluxer has no outside investors, and fluxer.com shows no ads and never trains AI models on your content. We also plan an optional public web mode for forum channels that anyone can read without an account, with an experimental draft planned before the end of 2026.

Where is TeamSpeak ahead of Fluxer?

TeamSpeak is ahead of Fluxer on these points today.

  • Some TeamSpeak chats are end-to-end encrypted today, and Fluxer plans it for calls in 2026 and for DMs and group DMs with a stable release in 2027.
  • The TeamSpeak 6 beta shares your screen at up to 4K and 60 fps. On fluxer.com, free accounts get up to 720p at 30 fps, and 4K at 60 fps needs Plutonium or a peer-to-peer call. Peer-to-peer calls are an early preview that fluxer.com is turning on country by country, and they show your IP address to the others in the call.
  • TeamSpeak 3 has iOS and Android apps in the App Store and Google Play today. Fluxer's Android app is still a beta, and we expect its iOS app to be on the App Store in early November 2026, with the TestFlight beta on hold until then.
  • The TeamSpeak 6 beta5 client can record calls locally on your computer with a separate audio track for each speaker, and Fluxer doesn't record calls.
  • TeamSpeak has Unity and Unreal Engine plugins for voice chat in games.
  • TeamSpeak has been around since 2001, while fluxer.com has only been open to everyone since it launched as a public beta in January 2026.

How do I try Fluxer?

You can download Fluxer or open fluxer.com and make a free account. If your group is also on Discord, moving a community from Discord explains what comes over.
